My Dog's Ear was Severely Damaged !!

I took my dog angus to the petsmart grooming salon a few weeks back and they severely damaged his ear. I was never told that this happened and I noticed the damage about a week or so after the grooming appointment. I took the dog into the vet today and spoke w/ the petsmart manager too. His ear will have to be stitched and possibly amputated ! This dog is never out of my families care except to go to the Petsmart grooming salon for a haircut ! The Petsmart manager would do NOTHING for me and not even admit his salon did the damage, yet could give NO explanation as to how it happened. My dog could possibly be permanently damaged, not to mention the pain this dog has suffered through because of this injury !!
I would like petsmart at the very least to pay the Vet bill to have his ear repaired which is $518, yet they should really do more for the pain and suffering of my dog and my little girls who would hate to have his ear cut off !!

When my girl goes to the groomer I always check her out before I leave the store.I like to ask the tough queations: "How was she?" " Any issues?" If perchance there was an issue, I would know about it when I get home and not days later.

from a chain link fence, barbed wire fence, cat fight, dog fight, child's toy (happened to a friend of mine) ect. Which is why they aren't going to agree to pay for it. A lawyer might get them to pay just to avoid the bad press but legally it most likely would be hard to prove it happened there.

I'm sorry your dog was hurt - I am a pet owner myself and have both cats and dogs.
That being said - I do not understand how an injury had enough to cause a possible amputation could go unnoticed for a week. You don't mention the breed of dog but logic would dictate that if it needed to be sewn up that there would have been blood at some point. I don't understand how they could have explained to you how it happened - by your own admission a week had gone by - and you don't seem to have pointed anything out to them while in the salon.
I don't blame petsmart for not taking responsibility.

If it's so badly damaged, how could you not notice it for a week? I'm a pet owner, and owned a dog for 12 years, and they couldn't get an eye booger without my noticing it.

at this point it may be in your best interest to get a lawyer
the manager will not assume responsibility for the vet bills, especially if the damage wasn't noticed until a week after the grooming.
agreeing to pay would mean that they are agreeing with the claim that the groomer cut the dog that badly. and if there's a chance that the dog was injured some other way after being groomed they would not want to be stuck with the bills or legal fees.

If his ear is bad enough to have to be stitched and possibly amputated, how is it you didn't notice it for a week? Do you have proof that it actually happened when he went for grooming? I doubt that Petsmart will pay anything but stop back and let us know how this whole thing works out.
