Feel like I have been slapped in the face!

Write a Letter to this Company
On 7/9/11 I went to your Cumberland Mall Boscov's store in Vineland, NJ with my 2 year old daughter. When I got into the store I was near the jewelry counter and i could not find any shopping carts with a child seat. I asked the lady behind the jewelry counter (who's name is Joan) if she knew where I could find any of the shopping carts with child seats. She VERY rudley responded to me that "Boscov's is more like a Macy's and not a k-mart." I was so taken aback by this remark that I just walked away. I have a Boscov's credit card and I shop there AT LEAST a couple of times a month and I felt like she was implying that I did not belong in Boscov's. When I got home I called and spoke to the on-duty manager named Millie. She was nice enough but didn't seem to care one bit about the incident. Millie told me she would "talk" to her.
I would like that rude woman fired or reprimanded. It would also be nice if the actual store manager had at least tried to handle my complaint. I would also like Boscov's to get some better/more shopping carts with child seats. The carts that are there now are horrible!

You have every right to be upset. There were other ways that Joan could have handled your question. She couldve told you where the store would have one available, they usually have them available at customer desk. She could have politely told told you that the store did not have them in the event they didnt or she could have called someone and asked if she wasnt sure. Absolutely her comment was rude and if Mr. Boscov is as gung-ho about customer service (supposedly he always sides with the customer) then Joan should have been fired. Im also curious as to where Joan gets off comparing Boscov's to Macy's. Boscov's is basically a slightly better WalMart in my opinion.
As for you people out there siding with Joan....stop. Retail is a hard job but her comment was toatally unprofessional. Also, yes a stroller in the trunk is a good idea but people forget things so to chastize this woman for not having one isn't called for.
As a former employee of Boscov's I can tell you that I seriously doubt that anything happened to Joan. She probably wasnt even told about the complaint and she will be allowed to continue employment there. I've seen people in that store get away with bloody murder and nothing is ever done about it. If I were you Id stay away and spend your money elsewhere.

I understand why you would be frustrated by the situation but the manager did say she would speak with the woman regarding the comment. What she said wasn't an appropriate comment and she should probably be disciplined. However to fire someone because of a comment that may not have been meant the way you took it is not the right way to go. She should be disciplined and told that she didn't handle the situation appropriately. However, all of this taken into account, you have NO RIGHT to know what happens to this employee. It is none of your business how they discipline her and I never told people with complaints regarding a particular employee what I was going to say or do to the employee.

i question your labeling this woman "rude." She was telling you that it was a department store (which often don't have shopping carts at all), and not a DISCOUNT store.
I think it's incredibly rude that you want her fired for stating facts. Go shop where you're wanted.

I should note that normally I do bring a stroller with me, however, I had my friend and her daughter with us that day so my Hubby emptied the trunk so we would have room for our purchases and he inadvertently took out the stroller also. Also in that particular store customer service is all the way in the back and they don't normally keep carts there. They are usually at one of the entrances. You are absolutely right, those carts are disgusting! Believe me, I had plenty of anti-bacterial wipes with me :) I'll be honest I was just totally insulted and irregardless of whatever I forgot I still feel like she was totally innappropriate.

There was no reason for her to be rude to you.
Avoid the inconvenience of trying to find an acceptable cart by bringing a stroller with you.

for companies to deal with discipline issues in-house. They aren't going to tell you much about what they do to Joan. You'll probably just have to take the actual store manager's word that she is handling your complaint.
I'm sure you were offended, but my suggestion would be to ask customer service where the carts may be. A jewelry department employee isn't likely to know where on the property carts may have been left.
