Write a Letter to this Company

We checked into the hotel because our power went out, we had recently visited best western on vacation, and they were wonderful. The staff at comfort inn were rude, expect the housekeepers, who were great. The power went out at the hotel around 715 am. We waited hoping it would go back on and it did about 9 am. I asked if they could extend the breakfast, as the coffee and such were unavailable. I didn't think that was too much to ask for, but the girl removed all the food and ignored me completely, as if she were deaf. They pool was filthy, i have never seen such a dirty indoor pool. We rented 2 rooms, one of which was a smoking room (not smokers). It was the only room with one bed, they should have offered the 2 bed room. The room smelled as if there were 3000, wet dirty ashtrays hidden around. I have never smelled anything so bad. My daughter had that room, I couldn't even stay in it 5 minutes. She asked for something to spray, they told her they would send someone up...Nobody ever came, she went down again and they gave her a can of spray to remove odors, which helped a little. When we were in florida, we stayed in a smoking room (all that was available), but it did not smell at all. I do not think they keep up with the cleaning. The sheets don't fit the beds and come off. It was an expensive 2 day stay, but my daughter is diabetic and I had to have electricity to keep her insulin cold. I cannot believe how dirty and unfriendly they are.

Use some spray on the smoking rooms, there is no excuse for that. Offer a 2 bed room if needed. If the power goes out during breakfast, extend it. Offer a discount...do something to please the customers, or you will stop getting them.

Did it ever cross your mind that you weren't the only ones who went to
a hotel due to the power outage and maybe they were booked and
couldn't offer you a 2 bed room? Did you even ask for one? When our
power went out in the winter for 5 days, all the hotel/motels were
booked, we were lucky to get a room, they only gave us one due to our
unusual circumstances, and it was a 2 bed room for 7 people at that.
Believe me, we didn't complain.

Has anyone thought that food can become a health hazard when it is out
for service if correct temperatures are not maintained? This breakfast
was out for one hour and 45 minutes without power to the refrigeration
or heating.

Cereal, bagels, English muffins and such can sit out a while longer
and will not spoil.

As long as the food was initially heated/cooked properly, and
discarded within 4 hours, it should be safe. This is time as a
temperature control, and it is an acceptable method of food service.

dry goods would be OK but fresher foods such as meats and eggs would
have to be tossed.

However as someone else pointed out below... the employees are not
slaves. They have every right to leave work when scheduled. They
should not have to be forced to work later just because someone missed
breakfast.

and as for missing food because of a power outage... one can also ask
for a wakeup call. I did that in one hotel that kept dropping power.
the guy working didn't like it but ... hell it's something that IS in
his list of job tasks, and during his shift.

They could have brought out some milk for the cold cereal or some
bread for toast, the staff was cranky.

I'm not sure how Best Western factors in, as they are not affiliated
with Comfort Inn or Choice Hotels in any fashion.

That aside, I agree with most of your complaint. The breakfast person
was completely out of line, and the dirty pool, poor fitting sheets,
etc., are examples of how the hotel is simply not kept up as it should
be.

Did you bring these complaints to the attention of the staff at the
time? At the hotel where I work, most complaints are able to be
immediately resolved by line-level employees. I often times hear
complaints from guests and I wish they would have told us as soon as
they had an issue so the issue could be corrected.

All Comfort Inn locations are independently owned and operated, so I
would try and find out who owns this location. If it is a management
company, I would contact them too.

Sometimes you can spray all you want, but the smoke odor clings to the
curtains and carpets.

If you'd wanted two beds, you could have asked. Or you could have
paid a few bucks more for a two-bed, non-smoking room.

The power went out. That is beyond their control. There's really no
reason they should give you a discount for that.

As for as missing breakfast--you could have gotten down there before
7:15, but you didn't. (I know, you couldn't have predicted when the
power would go out, but my point is that you could have had
breakfast.) The hotel probably could not extend the breakfast because
the breakfast crew was scheduled only for those set hours.

Next time your power goes out, grab a cooler and buy a bunch of ice.
You might have to go out a few times to replenish the ice, but at
least the insulin can stay cold.
