7 Eleven on steroids

Posted Tue August 16, 2011 4:29 pm, by Tricia V. written to Food Lion, Inc.

Write a Letter to this Company

I often frequent your store on Caratoke Hwy. in Moyock, N.C. on the way to the Outer Banks and have a suggestion. Can you PLEASE have people stock shelves at night! The aisles are narrow enough as it is, without having to navigate around skids of product! I have to pass by things I need to purchase for fear of disrupting the employees work!

On top of that you have displays set-up in the middle of the aisles to where it's hard to maneuver a cart around. I find this not only annoying but dangerous.

Lastly your cashiers don't have an MVP card to scan at the register. I am sick of all you companies trying to add junk in my wallet so you can track my purchases.

Stock at night, allow unfettered access to aisles and stop trying to Big Brother me with your "savings" card.

I haven't been to a 7-11 since I stopped getting high decades ago.
That's the only way to go to a 7-11.

If you want the savings, then you need to carry the appropriate card
for it, it is not the store's responsibility to keep one on hand to
scan for you. If you just can't bear to carry the card then don't
expect a discount.

I doubt the employees have any say into when they stock the shelves,
they can't just suddenly decide to do it at night and make the putting
away of new items the responsibility of a different shift.

If the store bothers you this much perhaps finding a new store to go
to would be better.

Good feedback on the stocking and the middle-of-the-aisle displays. I
hate those displays also, they seem to often be in front of a product
I want. For the stocking, I'm sure the employees don't mind(or if
they do they shouldn't) if you ask them for a product they might be
able to reach while stocking that you can't. In other words, you
aren't disrupting their work.

I don't agree about the savings card though. Basically, they are
offering you a discount in exchange for your information. Buying it
in a way. They get something, you get something. It's totally
voluntary and if you don't want to give out your information, you
don't get the discount. Seems fair to me.

If you want a savings card, you have to agree to the terms and
conditions. If you don't like the terms then do not get the card.

Employees are not required to provide one for you.

I don't carry savings cards either, most stores are more then happy to
look up your card using your phone number. That works well enough for
me. If the store doesnt offer that option I don't use the card there,
but I don't expect to get the additional savings.

First of all... how "damaging" is it to have these purchases

I know many people are ultra-scared or sensitive about being tracked
and there's a knee-jerk reaction to being on a database... but in
reality you're already on quite a few databases already.

i.e. driver's license, phone book, message boards, email.

you're already on databases.

But more importantly, how will it harm you for a company to know that
customer number 6021023 likes to buy a lot of eggs?

I mean it's not like they're going to send the egg police out to
torture you for your egg salad recipe. Or question you on it.

But, at least with my grocery store... they WILL send you a coupon for
eggs. Or butter, or whatever else you frequently buy from them.

Right now in my coupon book I have from the grocery store:
- $1 off tampax pearl
- $0.75 off dixie plates
- $0.75 dole natural salad kit
- 1.50 off of 3 halmark cards
- FREE eggs

by PepperElf Posted Wed August 17, 2011 @ 12:06 PM

- FREE EGGS *** yes free !!!
- FREE butter *** woot free again!
- $0.40 off some brand of bacon
- $.040 off of sliced cheese

and the list goes on.

all of these were generated because we swiped the discount card before

so as far as i care... let them track how many times we buy milk. if
they're going to give me free stuff, or extra discounts just for
playing their games... I'll take it.

(p.s. bonus geek points to anyone who knows where I got that 'customer
number' from) ;-)

While not ideal to stock the shelves during the day, perhaps they had
a run on certain sale items, or a shipment was delayed and they had
run out of that particular stock. I am sure you would rather they
filled the shelves with the items you needed than not have any out at

As for the MVP card -I am with Olie - you don't have to carry a card
but then don't expect the savings that come with having one. You made
that choice.

by olie Posted Tue August 16, 2011 @ 7:09 PM

I think OP is comparing Food Lion to a 7 Eleven.

I don't worry about "disrupting" an employee who's stocking. I say,
"Excuse me", or I ask, "Can you hand me a 24-oz. bottle of Heinz
ketchup, please?"

I agree with you that middle-of-aisle displays are annoying,
especially when another shopper parks a cart directly across the aisle
from one.

If you don't want to carry an MVP card, don't. But also don't expect
the savings that accompany one. In our area, a store can look up your
frequent-buyer account if you provide your phone number.

a sale's display is insulting? by PepperElf Thu August 18, 2011 @ 10:58 PM

by Bill R. Posted Tue August 16, 2011 @ 6:07 PM

Tricia V.,

The 7/11's I have been in have a front door and that is it. All
deliveries come through that door and go straight to the aisles for

Most likely the truck arrives during the day ( when the staff is there
) and the goods have to be shelved then due to storage constraints.

I'm not up on what an MVP card is so I won't go there.

Good luck getting unfettered access in the future.
