Horrible Laptop

I bought a laptop for my daughter October 2010, paid around $650.00. So after having it for ONLY 10 months the Hard-drive breaks--I get a refurbished one in the mail to be install by myself & to reprogram the computer by my self (with little computer knowledge). Lets say it took 6-8 hours to do. Then around a week later the ports won't work, now the mother-board? is broken & I have to send it to Dell for a week to get fixed. Now, I thought they would go through it & it would come back set to factory settings like when it was new, but no they didn't! I had a new internet explorer on it which was confusing at fist until I realized it was a new version. The computer still does not run right, it is slow at times, the internet doesn't like to start & I have to restart the computer a lot, this is even though it indicates the wirelesss is connected. The final issue--I put my daughter pictures back onto the computer & go to set up her screen saver back to the Windows Live Photo Gallery and click on settings to select the nice arrangement she had before--but no option available!! States "This computer's video card can't display themes!" So I look at other screen savers & none of them have any options available. I don't have this much money to spend for a computer to last less than a year!!! I feel like Dell is giving me the easiest & cheepest parts/solutions instead of fixing the computer. I feel that the computer should not have broken in the first place. But since it did it should have been fixed like it was new!! I have had an account with Dell for many years & bought a few computers & a camera from them. I will never buy anything from Dell again--especially a laptop!!!!!!!

I would like a BRAND NEW LAPTOP (with the blue exterior) to replace the one I have, obviously the one I bought is defective!

I had a similar situation to this a few years back, and spent many
many MANY hours on the phone with India, sometimes getting hung up on
after being on hold for up to an hour and a half (no joke.) My hard
drive had crashed, and they had to send me new recover disks. After
weeks and weeks of trying, I gave up, which I NEVER do. I found some
burned ones that were almost as good. Then, a month or so later, my
disk drive stopped working. My sister had the same computer, so I
switched our disk drives, and mine was still not working. Every time
I called over to India, they demanded all my info, and that we go
through the BS trouble shooting, even when I told them I had JUST been
transferred after doing EXACTLY THAT. This was only fixed when I went
to a Dell kiosk at a mall and told them that if I didn't have a new
disk drive by the following week, I would come to the mall after
hours, break into the kiosk and steal one of theirs with a
screwdriver. (At this point I was a 19 yr old girl, so not a police
worthy threat.) I had 2 in the mail 3 days later... (I kept the
spare.) I will never EVER buy another thing from Dell, and make sure
to let any computer shopper out there know that they are the absolute
WORST.

Toshiba's changed. You can burn multiple copies now. HP / Compaq still only allows one set n/t by PepperElf Thu September 29, 2011 @ 10:21 AM

The recovery disks did not work & now I can't even put Dell data safe
back on the computer. Believe me I have tried everything!

you may have to call them up to ask for a set.

i've personally only seen issues with DDS on one computer where it
didn't come preloaded and we had a wretch of a time trying to install
it. one of the guys finally got it to work though

If the laptop cant display themes its not a problem with the laptop
its a problem with the type of laptop you bought.

$695 is not alot for a laptop, most decent ones run around $800-$1400

there are a few netbooks that are in the $400-$600 range that are very
nice, but thats another story.
