The only store that asks customers for Photo Id paying with credit/debut

The Burger King Franchise at 17067 Pines Boulevard Pembroke Pines, FL. Is the only fast food establishment that I've been asked for photo Id when purchasing food with either a credit or debit card. I have asked neighbors, family and friends about their experience with this and other places they purchase from and unanimously they all agree that this is the only place they've been asked for photo Id. Not only do they ask for Id but they look at the credit card like it was counterfeit money. Why is it that this one and only one franchisee does this and is this something that you promote? I travel every week out of state and my experience is that this is the only place that I've been asked to provide additional identification.

I would like an explanation of your policy on payment by credit/debit card and if this is not a corporate-wide policy then address the issue with this store.

Anytime you use a debit or credit card you should have an ID with you.
If your card had been used fraudulently, then you would be complaining
that they hadn't asked for ID.

I am a manager at a Burger King in another state. We are supposed to
ask if It's not signed or says "see ID". That's just a basic
precaution to help prevent any identity theft. What's the big deal?
None of my customers seem to mind.

We have this policy at my store as well, I'm the Store Manager of a
fast food restuarant and my employees will be written up if they DO
NOT ask for a Vaild DL if the CC is not signed.

This protects not only you, but my store as well.

REALLY - What's the problem with that?????

I guess you want identity theft. If you've ever been a victim of
identify theft you would really appreciate the fact that someone is
looking out for YOU!!!!!!

I've been a victim of identity theft, and it's a real pain in the butt
to clear your name and try to undo what the criminals have done to
your name.

SHAME ON YOU for complaining.

You and the merchant both have agreements with the credit card
company:

Yours is to sign the back of your card when you receive it.

The merchant's is to check the back of the card to make sure it is
signed and that the signature matches the one on the receipt. They are
NOT allowed to ask for photo ID. If the card is not signed or "See ID"
is written in its place, they are *technically* not supposed to accept
the card.

So, make sure that the back of your card is signed, and if a merchant
asks for your ID, remind them "the card is signed". If they ask again
or tell you it's "store policy" let them know "It is against your
store's merchant agreement to ask me for my ID. You are supposed to be
verifying the signature."

You should be very happy this BK is doing this as they are the only
one that is actually doing the right thing.

Look at it this way - they are ensuring that nobody, but the
cardholder him- or herself - is using the credit or debit card that is
being offered for payment.

That protects the cardholder from identity theft.

I wish every fast food restaurant and convenience store did this, but
most don't care about anything but making the sale.

This BK apparently is a little more diligent and focused on protecting
its customers.

With identity theft and fraud being one of the top employment
opportunities I personally don't have a problem with the policy of
showing photo ID. By law we are required to carry it anyway. I have
heard several stories lately of account fraud from friends, it is on
the rise and this policy not only protects the franchise but the
consumer also.

...to being called by the credit card company when they make a large
purchase. When I bought my computer, I spent ~800 in that transaction,
plus 2 smaller (under $50) transactions elsewhere in the same day. I
got a voice mail message from Discover about an hour after I bought
the computer asking me to call in and authorize all three
transactions. All were legit, of course, but I was glad that they
notice those things, since other than car repairs, an $800 charge is
very large for me.

And yes, when I bought the computer, they asked to see my ID.

regarding a two dollar purchase from the Android Marketplace.
Apparently since it went overseas, they wanted to verify it.

I would rather verify a two dollar puchase than have a 500 dollar
puchase go through unquestioned.

I have no problem showing ID, i always carry it.

Some individuals seem to expect companies that can magically tell
whether or not it's the card owner.



I personally use to complain (not here... just in general) whenever
my bank questioned a purchase I made.

Until they questioned one that... "Wait, that's not me! I haven't
been buying anything lately. What the hell!"

Yeah they caught someone using my account info.

I stopped complaining after that.

Was the back of your card signed?



I know where I work, I am REQUIRED to look at the credit card. If the
card isn't signed I have to ask for photo ID.


FYI .... The merchant's agreement about not asking for ID doesn't
apply if you didn't sign the back of the card.

at that location. They are allowed to ask for photo ID, but they
can't refuse you to accept your card if you don't want to provide it.
I wouldn't take it personally. Blame the scum-bags who commit credit
card fraud for businesses trying to minimize their risk.

Could be either of these:

They have sustained losses and are working to assure that it does not
repeat.

They have not sustained a loss and are working to assure it does not
start.

As a credit card holder for many years when matching ID's happens I
have no problem.

I'm waiting for the day when our picture is on our credit card.
