Citibank Unknown Account Collection - no progress with dispute - CITI IS RUINING MY LIFE.

I pulled my credit at the end of August to find a recently reported charge-off collection from an account I did not recognize. It did not have a full account # on the report. When I searched the address online it indicated that this was from Citibank collections.

This is a major collection/charge-off in the amount of $1,193.00. When I called the number for Citi collections they were unable to look up my info and said that I was not in their system. I am not in their system because I never opened this account and it is erroneous. The CSR gave me a number to fax a letter to the credit dispute unit. I faxed my letter on 9/29/2011 to 1-866-548-5614 and received confirmation. This is the # the rep gave me. Per FCRA I thought they had to respond within 15 days, they have not, and all contact info was given on my dispute letter.

Due to no response, I called Citi collections again on 10/20/2011. Again the automated system and the rep. were unable to verify me (I also do not like giving my ss# to strangers over the phone to creditors I do not have relationships with). The rep told me that I needed to wait 30 - 90 days. I wanted specific info and he said he had none because they could not even find me in the system.

I asked for a contact in the credit dispute unit and explained this inaccurate info was holding up an auto refinance, a new auto purchase for my fiance, and a new home purchase. I was told a generic answer of needing to wait 30 - 90 days. Again I asked for a contact # and was told the credit dispute unit was a 'backdoor office' and had no public phone number.

So I cannot check the status of my dispute, the creditor does not have me on file in anyway - trust me I gave them every piece of info on me and they still cannot find me in the system. Yet I have to 'just wait' on Citi to fix their error that is ruining my credit and holding up my life.

I am in my mid 20's and have worked hard for the last 5 years to establish a good credit profile so that I could get a house, and refi my auto loan etc. Now I cannot because Citi is punishing me and ruining my life for an account the CSRs acknowledge is erroneous because I am not in their system, and they have no person I can talk to, or no specific status update, or any timeframe as to when this will be fixed.

In the meantime low housing prices and rates will not last forever, I hope they can clear this up because I have never had a Citi account or ever even applied for one. I do not even know what this account is, and apparently neither does Citi. They need to realize these errors are greatly affectING the lives of individuals.

I want someone from the credit dispute unit to contact me to tell me what is being done to correct this.

I want the information removed from my credit report, and the bureaus to be updated that it was in error and that I never had a $1,193.00 charge off with Citi. I would like all corrections to be made so my report is clean again and reflects the positive changes in my FICO score.

I would like this done, immediately, not in a generic '30 - 90' days.

You need to be disputing this with the credit reporting agencies. It
is entirely possible that they made the error, not Citibank, which
would explain why Citibank can't find you.

All three large CR companies have instructions on their web site on
how to dispute an incorrect entry.
