Banned for a Year

Write a Letter to this Company
I think that it is absolutely ridiculous that Universal Studios ban guests for a year for such ridiculous things. I was recently banned at Halloween Horror Nights for alcohol misuse, and was banned for an entire year. Well guess what? This might not mean much to you because millions of silly tourists pay your park, or should I say overpay, for mediocre attractions and poor security. For your information, I saw plenty of younger kids drinking, and I'm not saying that makes it right, but to be banned for a year is ridiculous. I have checked all of my papers and though it mentions things that are prohibited, it merely mentions that you may get kicked out, but not that you will be banned for a year. I think that you are swaying away customers and potential customers, because I can assure you this, I will never recommend Universal or Halloween Horror Nights to any of my friends or family, nor will I be enticed to bring my children there when I have them.
I think that there should be other options to being banned for a year. For example pay a fee to get in early. Or each ban only last only based on severity. I saw a man drunk out of his mind and belligerent and he is only banned for one year, however, me, who had a one sip of a drink is banned for the same amount of time. I think you should offer your consumers other options after being banned, and should make it clear on the all the Universal and HHN pamphlets that breaking the rules will result in banning of a year. Because I know plenty of people that don't care about being kicked out, including myself because I had done all the attractions I wanted, but being banned for a year is excessive.

They could get into BIG trouble if you were to be drinking and get injured in their park. Many places have zero tolerance policies. Zero tolerance means that if you break the rule you receive the maximum punishment with no questions asked.

They get to make the rules and if you don't like those rules then you should not patronize that place. Just because others were drinking and only your group got kicked out means nothing. You broke the rules, you pay the penalty. They are not obligated to give you choices as to what your punishment should be. Common sense does come into play here.
If you have done all the attractions you wanted then why are you worried about being banned for a year?

Are you underage? If so, you violated park policy and broke the law. You deserved to be banned from there for 1 year. You should also have been arrested if you were underage.

why it was necessary to drink at all at an amusement park at all?
If you want to get wasted, go to a bar, or better still, stay at home, then you don't have to worry about "ridiculous" rules that you don't seem to want to follow anyway!

A theme park that strives to uphold local and state laws and removes people who break laws and cause other, law/rule abiding guests not to enjoy their visit? I say that is wonderful!
That you, Kim M., for pointing out that Universal Studios cares about its guest and their safety. If you have no intention of changing your attitude and behavior, then I have a feeling that Universl Studios is hoping you keep your promise/threat never to return.

Arguing with someone in charge when you've been drinking ... never bodes well for the drinker.
No matter what the drinker "thinks" about the rules or consequences... the rules still apply and can be enforced against them. And arguing back will not magically make these rules go away.
And if the drinker indicates that they "don't care" because they already had their fun... well then a 1 year banishment is a good answer ..... especially if it means that the drinker suddenly *does* care that they won't have any more fun there until the following year.

They banned you for a year because you broke the rules. Had they simply kicked you out for the night, it would not have had any impact on you or your friends since you state yourself
"I know plenty of people that don't care about being kicked out, including myself because I had done all the attractions I wanted"
So it wouldn't have mattered if they had thrown you out for the night. You would not have really learned a lesson or felt that it would be a deterrent for future behavior.
The park has learned that banning someone for an extended period of time has far greater impact.
Learn your lesson. Don't break the rules and maybe in a year or so, you will be able to conduct yourself appropriately.

I have experience in the security field (Not Universl Studios). Here's the problem with your conduct, Kim: By engaging in illegal activity (drinking alcohol, likely underage, in public), you put yourself and others at risk of serious bodily harm or death.
It is security's job to ensure the safety of all persons while on site and also minimize the risk of loss (theft, lawsuit or otherwise) to Universal. You have displayed that you are a risk to the security of Universal Studios, and now they are doing their due-diligence in issuing you a banning notice.
You may not go here in the future because of this, but because of this, I sure will.

It's not stated in the letter, but I get the feeling the letter writer is under 21 and not only broke the rules of the park, but broke the law as well.

Time to grow up and deal with the consequences of your own poor choices.

If you didn't care about being banned for a year, why did you take the time to write this letter?

So what if other people were drinking in the theme park? You just happened to get caught.
If everybody else was jumping off a cliff, would you do it too?
Finally, if the attractions are so mediocre and the security is so poor, why do you want to go back so bad?

"Alcohol misuse" and "drinking" are two different things.
First you have to PROVE the others were drinking alcohol.
Second ... if you got caught then you got caught. Pointing out others does not mean you weren't breaking the rules. Plus, if your actions were at all influenced by alcohol consumption then you may have been making yourself more obvious than the others you claim were also guilty.
At any rate... if the rules state "no alcohol" and you get kicked out and banned for violating those rules, I don't see what they did that was wrong.
I mean sure it may hurt your feelings to be told "no" but they have that right. And they can enforce that right with the law.

This post can't be serious with that "bring my children there when I have them" bit! You had just made me aware of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studio with this cute bit of advertising. Quite a place to party there with all the drinking.
