Full anal glands in people food.

Posted Sun January 1, 2012 12:00 pm, by C.L. M. written to Smithfield Foods Inc

Write a Letter to this Company

I suggest that you prepare yourself for a lawsuit. I have two items, taken from your product, that look like anal glands. The problem is that while you are saying rinse and cook there is actually feces in this product. Mind you, when you are preparing diner, after having bought four bags of what is supposed to be "already" cleaned Chitterlins and feces shots out across the sink landing in your Gumbo, which costs all of $90.00 to make, you become annoyed. The smell was all of horrific. Did I panic? No. I called my lawyer. The FDA will certainly get to hear of this. I am thinking like, according to my lawyer, you endangered my life. No way could you have production control with this sort of stuff going out.

Heres to you.

If you eat the part of the animal that crap passes through, then it's
on you.

by Kitty K. Posted Mon February 20, 2012 @ 10:47 PM

You know, seeing as how this product has been around for a long time,
and intestines are naturally going to contain at least some residue of
waste (since processing crap is their natural function)....I would
suspect that this is not the first time this company has gotten
complaints about this. And the fact that they are still in business
selling pig intestines for human consumption tells you all you need to
know about the potential "success" of your lawsuit.

All these letters about chitterlings over the last few months have
served a purpose. I now know what NOT to order if i ever visit a
restaurant down south.

"Yes, waiter, I'll have the pig colon, hold the sauce"
-Words never to be uttered by me.

Eh, some people talk it, some people eat it. It won't harm you if
cooked properly.

My question is, why? by sarahsmile Fri February 10, 2012 @ 9:19 AM

by MA Bellamy Posted Mon January 9, 2012 @ 10:57 AM

Either they are or they aren't and if you aren't sure, you don't have
any basis for a lawsuit. And as for endangering your life? Well, you
knew what you were getting when you bought them. It's not like it's a
big secret.

I hate to point out the obvious, but these are pig intestines. You
almost HAVE to expect to find some fecal matter SOMEWHERE in them.
Even if they are cleaned properly, there would still be the bacteria
and any other "organic" particles left behind.

Truthfully, you couldn't pay me a million dollars while on Fear Factor
to eat them!

i had a bit of them once. it wasn't bad but not something i'd order by PepperElf Mon January 9, 2012 @ 12:38 PM

Did the lawyer say he or she would take the case?

by DeeM Posted Sun January 8, 2012 @ 1:50 AM

Maybe it's just me but I was going to cook something that naturally
contains poop I would never assume that someone else would be as
zealous about washing the chitterlins as I would be.

Never trust someone else to do a thorough job on something like this.

by PepperElf Posted Thu January 5, 2012 @ 1:02 PM

You talk about lawsuits and the FDA but you're forgetting

You're talking about a product that NATURALLY contains poop.

If this was a liver or brain or a steak then yes finding poop in it
would be an FDA issue. Clearly there should never be any fecal
material in those items.

But when you're talking about the animal's intestines... it's full of
poop to begin with. So threatening them with a lawsuit and the FDA
may not work the way you are imagining it will.

So even though you called your lawyer ... it does NOT mean you are
going to win a suit.

by batmoody Posted Wed January 4, 2012 @ 6:19 AM

I even wash my "Ready to Eat" bags of lettuce and such. It seems
logical that there could be a bug or something in it.

You can bet if I am buying pig intestines, I wouldn't be suprised to
find poop in it. I just don't see how you could sue over that.

My mom washes all produce first by PepperElf Thu January 5, 2012 @ 1:03 PM

by MissUK Posted Wed January 4, 2012 @ 4:47 AM

Of course there is feces in the product. That is why it is always
recommended that you rinse them several times over before cooking
them. Even if they are 'already cleaned', better to be safe. And yes
they do smell 'pungent', that is the nature of the product.

I do not think you have a leg to stand on legally.

How does Gumbo cost you $90.00 to make? I make it all the time for
dinner and im not rich

by Nate. Posted Mon January 2, 2012 @ 4:08 PM

How was your life endangered?

by fairywithfangs Posted Mon January 2, 2012 @ 1:22 PM

It's intestines. My guess is this is a risk you run when you buy them.
Kinda how pitted cherries sometimes have pits or boneless chicken
sometimes have bones.

but oh dear god that is gross.

by RedheadwGlasses Posted Mon January 2, 2012 @ 12:12 PM

I don't understand how or why people even EAT chitterlings. Have fun
with the lawsuit.

C.L. M.,

I am not an attorney nor am I a paid spokesperson but I'd venture now
that you have contacted your attorney there is a slim chance this
letter will generate a response.
