Regarding: Account No. xxxxxx
Citi Bank
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
399 Park Avenue
New York, New York 10022

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing a letter about my experience with Citi that is a mixture of a grateful “thank-you” and a pressing request concerning a Chase credit card tradeline in my credit files I would like to have revised.

I received the Chase credit card on June 01, 2007, several years before my first daughter was born, and my spouse being laid of her job. Later when I experienced the birth of my child and the loss of my wife’s job and while working on a work project, I became disorganized with respect to, as you saw, making timely payments with Citi. I fully recognized my responsibility with respect to payable accounts and have worked diligently to rehabilitate my relationship with Citi since that time.

To be honest, that year was a “wake up” call for me regarding fiscal organization. Since then I believe I have learned the essential organizational and financial management principles I desperately needed at the point. Thankfully, responsible credit management is now reflected in my credit records which – excluding the Citi card late entry – are excellent. I wish to thank you for renewing your confidence in me and for giving me a second chance at a relationship with you, one that I am determined to keep spotless.

We are about to shop for a mortgage, and it has come to my attention that the late notations from Citi may preclude me from taking full advantage of the very lowest interest rates now available. Since those notations do not reflect my current status with Citi, I am requesting that you give me a second chase at a positive credit rating by revising this tradeline. Your customer service representative suggested that I write you a “goodwill adjustment”. I sincerely hope that there is redemption at chase, and beg you such consideration. Please let me know if any additional documentation would assist in reaching a positive outcome, and I thank you again for the time you have spent reading this letter.

Very hopefully yours

Pablo

To whom it may concern:

Please do not grant people who were late with numerous payments who
would like you to lie by cleaning up their credit report, especially
when this becomes important to them only when it's because they now
want to buy a house and need things cleaned up.

These people don't deserve "the lowest interest rates now available"
because those rates should be reserved for people who have no
missteps.

Erasing negative marks negates the purpose in having credit reports in
the first place.

I so dislike so-called "goodwill adjustments". You went through a
hard time, and sounds like you learned some invaluable lessons, so
good for you! However, part of that is facing the consequences of
what happened. It's not fair that your credit could be cleaned up to
look like someone who didn't have the lessons you did. They earned
the lower rates, I'm sorry but you didn't (and I'm right there with
you as far as my credit).

Credit histories should be just that, an accurate reporting of what
happened.
