customer care

Posted Mon February 13, 2012 5:44 pm, by Deb W. written to Prime Sirloin

Write a Letter to this Company

I am a school bus driver for my home town district. On many occasions I travel to neighboring school districts on field trips. On Saturday 02/11/12 I traveled with several other buses to Altoona, Pa. While there we had lunch at Prime Sirloin as I have done many other times. Normally I do try to park my bus at the back of the building. This time there was no spaces available at the back of the building nor could I get there. Prime Sirloin shares parking with another business. The only available parking was in front of the building. So I put my bus in a spot that was easy to get in and out of, which I have also done before. After eating our meal and before leaving the lot, myself and the other driver stood outside the bus smoking a cigerette. While we were there a man whom I assumed was the manager of Prime Sirloin, walked by and asked if we were the driver of the bus and could we move it to the rear of the building so it could not be seen by customers from inside the resturant and also people driving by the front. I said that we would be leaving in a couple minutes and did explain that I normally do park in the back but could not get there this time. As the day went on and the more I thought about this the mader I got. We were paying customers just like anyone else there. I wondered if he wanted us to move because the bus had the name of my school district which is a big rival of the town we were in, was he upset because it was an eye sore for locals to look at. I know that buses, including coach buses frequent this place on many occasions. Sometimes with many customers on board and sometimes with just the driver. Either way we are all paying customers just like anyone else. If they don't want buses parking in the front lot then they should make space available and post signs directing larger vehicles such as buses. Buses are not that easy to manover in tight spaces. Once before I was there and did park in the back lot and had to wait for someone who had parked in front of my bus to move their car so I could get out. So, yes I do try to park where I will be able to get out easily. Places like this should realize that people with larger vehicles are just the same as anyone else. Because of this I will tell friends and co-workers and will think twice before going there again. There are many other places I can go to with easy parking. I go to Prime Sirloin because they do have good food and reasonable prices. I have also gone there many times with out the bus.

Incourage me to come back as a customer! Maybe a free meal the next time. Assure me that there will be no problem with parking if I am in a bus.

That the bus was parked in a non marked space or taking up several
spaces? I didn't see that anywhere so you can't know that for sure.
As for the driveway comment, a parking lot at a buissness is completly
different from a driveway at a private residence and besides that I
have signs saying private propperty and my driveway is inside a fence
that is kept locked.

after all it's their property.

the bigger issue was that the driver WAS ALREADY LEAVING. therefore
the entire complaint is moot anyway except that she got mad after the
fact.

so i still don't see where this merits anything free.

people aren't entitled to freebies just because they get mad

I think that as long as the manager/employee was polite in his request
that you park in the back of the parking lot, you shouldn't take
issue. I agree with others that most likely their thinking was that
they might lose business if the bus is parked out front. What I will
say is that I don't think the manager has any right to press the issue
when you politely let him know that usually you would park in the back
but there was no space. It doesn't sound like he did though, so I'm
really not understanding what the big deal was.

I'm with everyone else, if I see a school bus parked out front of a
restaurant the first thing I think about is the long lines, screaming
kids, and do I have enough aspirin.

It stinks trying to park a bus, but you cant park where your not
allowed regardless of how hard you tried to find a parking spot.

If I go to a restaurant and cant find a spot can I just park behind
someone? or on the grass?

I know the parking lot you are talking about. Had you parked closer to
Slinky Action Zone, nothing would have been said to you. Had I seen
your bus parked in front, I too would have assumed kids were inside.
This has nothing to do with school rivalry! I think you're taking this
the wrong way and deserve nothing in return.

Whenever I see a school bus outside of a restaurant I assume the place
will be packed with school aged children hopped up on field trip
excitement and I keep going.

I'm sure I'm not the only person who has that thought roll through
their mind and decides not to do business there that day.

I don't really see what the big deal is since you were getting ready
to leave....

You said you were leaving, so why do you need to be 'encouraged' to
come back as a customer?

by PepperElf Posted Wed February 15, 2012 @ 9:52 AM

So they asked you politely to move the bus. But you were leaving
anyway so it didn't matter.

But they somehow owe you something for this?

I don't see it. Just because your temper got riled does not mean
anyone owes you anything.

so you DIDN'T park your bus in the typically designated spot, they
asked you to move and for this you should get a free meal???

For the managers behavior... yes. He told the OP to move because he did not want customers to see the bus. by Chadg Wed February 15, 2012 @ 6:38 PM

by RedheadwGlasses Posted Tue February 14, 2012 @ 8:18 AM

OMG stop looking to be offended where no offense was intended, will
ya? The manager probably didn't want potential customers to be scared
off -- if they saw the bus, they'd be thinking, "Oh, crap, there are 40
school kids in there, let's go somewhere else."

So get over it, move forward, and get the chip off your shoulder.

School bus = kids by sarahsmile Wed February 15, 2012 @ 10:03 AM

by Chadg Posted Mon February 13, 2012 @ 6:39 PM

I;m not saying the manager was right in this situation, but I can
understand his concern. Many times I have chosen not to stop somewhere
because I see a bus and assume its busy and the wait will be long.

You are paying customers just like everyone else so you should have
the right to the same parking opportunities. I kind of doubt it would
have anything to do with a local rivalry, more of a "lets go somewhere
else, the place looks packed" kind of thing.

Deb W.,

Did you end up parking in a designated area...marked and lined as
such?

The reason I ask is that in most municipalities the store manager can
be held responsible if parking in prohibited areas goes on with their
knowledge.

Bringing this to their attention is good, a free meal not so much.
