why do you have a recorded voice on all the drive thru speakers in Anne Arundel county MD?
When I pull up, the voice says "welcome would you like to try our xyz today"?
so I place my order. then a real person comes on, and I realize I just placed my order to a recorded voice... THEN I have to say my order once again. why?
this is SO annoying. Having to order TWICE. Usually I pull off. lately I avoid mcdonalds period.
get rid of the recording. have a real person answer. Don't force me to order two times every time I use the drive thru.

What do you do? You go in and order. That really burns them since they now have to do their job with the customer fully in sight. I never use their drive thru any more, since also most times they never get the order right either.

I stop at McDonalds for a black coffee in the mornings sometimes and the one I go to uses the recording too. When you speak back to it, the cashier can hear you. At least at the one I go too..
I get the recording, I say "No thanks, can I get a large black coffee" and the cashier tells me my total and I pull around.
Maybe it's just the people at that particular location just don't know what they are doing.

I stopped eating McDonald's food years ago. However...
When you go to a restaurant, the wait staff will ask you what you want. The recording doesn't, so why would you tell it? You know they hire humans to take care of everything. The recording is just a promotional thing, and I doubbt they're going to remove it because it can't take food orders, as that's not what it's for.

It sounds like it's just making a suggestion, not asking for your order. A little confusing, though.

It'sbeen over 3 years since I ate at McD's so I didn't even know they were doing this.
I'd take your money to Five Guys, where you can get an actual REAL beef hamburger....and not pay for eating it later by spending hours in the toilet.

I believe part of it is to keep the lines moving. It cuts their processing time down because it's pressuring customers to have their orders ready.
I've heard that some places have a set up where the order is taken remotely and transmitted to the store you're to be made.
If the staff was on the ball the way they are supposed to be, they would be ready to take the order when the notice goes off and just enter it and move to the next car, but I know up here in Cleveland, the staff people are NEVER ready and 2x repeating your order is a GOOD night!

I agree. The McDs by my office did this (and it's a VERY good McDs). I don't think that recording lasted two weeks.
Oh, by the way, I don't think it's prerecorded -- they are now farming the drive through voice/teller job to call centers in other states! Seriously! THe last time I read about this, Denver, Colorado was host to one of these call centers.
