I got carded! =)

Write a Letter to this Company

I went to Refferty's last week with my boyfriend, using the mystery coupon we'd received from our visit on Valentine's weekend.

Because I'm finally over being sick I decided to splurge and order an alcoholic drink. As soon as I made my request our server asked to see my ID card.

I am 39 years old and.... that really gave me me a smile. I'm at the age where being mistaken for younger feels really nice. :-)

Thank you for making me feel younger.

By the way the mango margarita was really good too. =)

I used to only get carded if i shaved that morning. Now, I sometimes
get carded when I look pretty rough. I'm 33!

It can be an annoying and embarrassing pain in the ass, but many
places card everyone, and they have the legal right to do so.

I'm in my 50's, a grandfather with graying hair, and I still
occasionally get carded. In college I was so thin and underdeveloped
that sometimes I had to show an ID to get into an R-rated movie!

It's a drag, but the establishments who do this are only protecting
their liquor license. One snag can put a bar or restaurant out of
business for good.

Be prepared. When asked for an ID, have it on hand to show whoever is
asking to asking to see it, and chances are, the people around you
won't even notice. Carding is commonplace today; in fact, some
restaurants and liquor stores require their employees to card
everyone, even the old lady walking in with a cane. I see it all the
time, and if somebody cards me, out come the driver's license and
military ID, and that's the end of it.

So long as the server or sales clerk is polite and discreet about it,
take
it in stride as a part of life~~ it's not an insult; in fact, if
you're 39 and the wait[er/ress] mistook you for a teenager, I would
take the occasion to bask in all the womanly glory of having a total
stranger comment, based on appearance alone, that you might be a high
school student, [to whom the libation you ordered could not legally be
served,] while all along you're just one year shy of the big 4-0!
You must be one very pretty lady --:)*

Enjoy!

Bon aperitif--:)*

I get carded a lot as well. But they usually ask for my AARP card!

Strangely enough. I /dont/ get carded, and I'm constantly mistaken for
18.

I remember buying booze a few years ago and I was behind this other
lady. Dresesd up, makeup, purse... I was in travelling clothes -
sweats and a tshirt, ballcap, long hair, No makeup (I never wear
makeup)

She got carded. I didnt. O.O I would have put her at my age or older
too.

And for reference, I'm 31.

The Legion Liquors near me is required to card everyone coming through
the door. They even carded a really old looking man once when I was
there. They said that they have been having a rash of kids with fake
ID's so now they card everyone regardless of how they look or who they
are.

My husband came in with me, he didn't bring his wallet or anything (I
was driving) and they wouldn't let him stay in the store without his
ID.

The Liquer store near me cards EVERYONE. The clerk even told me he
has to card his relatives who come in. He told me the boss has told
everyone that if he catches someone not carding someone they would be
subject to termination.

They also have a HUGE sign at the register that says
"Please have ID ready, you will be carded regardless of age"

The weirdest time I ever got carded was at a Landhope Farms (like a
Wawa or 7-11).

I had just bought a twelve-pack of Heineken at the liquor store (which
does NOT sell cigarettes) next door to the Landhope Farms.

Rather than go back to my car to drop the beer off, I just walked next
door with the beer to the Landhope and entered.

I go to the counter and ask for a pack of Camels and the woman says
"Can I see your ID?"

Laughing pretty hard, I fished my ID out of my wallet.

"What's so funny?" she asked me.

I wordlessly lifted the twelve-pack of beer up to her eye-level (I had
placed it on the counter next to me before that).

"Oh" she said.

"No worries" I replied, still laughing.

I was behind a lady in the liquor store and when she gave the cashier
her bottle of wine and Credit Card, he asked her for her id. She said
"really, now you know that i'm over 21" and "I always get carded"

The cashier said "it's because your card isn't signed"

I actually snickered. I tried not to but that was very funny.

I bet this company will be happy to hear that their employees are so
stringent at carding!

While I am sure you look great for your age, some places card
everyone!

I was eating at an airport Fridays a couple of days ago and the tables
where quite close together. A middle aged couple sat down next to use
and order drinks and were not carded. A lady obviously in her late
50's or 60's sat down on the other side of us an ordered a glass of
wine. For some reason the same server carded her. She seemed pretty
annoyed as she was obviously over 21 and had to get up, move her
luggage out so she had access to her carry-on bag where he id was.

I haven't seen anyone get upset, only annoyed by RedheadwGlasses Thu March 15, 2012 @ 5:10 PM

It's always nice when someone is actually appreciative of being
carded. Most of the time, I get attitude, and whats funny is that the
ones I get the most attitude from are the ones that are like 25...

We HAVE to card if you look under 35 and I'm getting attitude because
you are 25? Makes me wish I were a fly on the wall when they actually
STOP getting carded in 15-20 years.

I'm not a regular alcohol buyer, and when I was younger I never bought
"kid stuff", but when I was under 30 I had to actually ask to be
carded. (LOL) These days around here they're supposed to card
everyone just so no one can yell age discrimination. It also keeps the
fines from the sting operations away. I walked into a bar in a hotel
one time and sat down when I was just 20 but ordered coffee. It felt
pretty wicked, but I guess they don't card you for ordering caffeine.
Yet. :-)
