Costco's Kirkland "organic" milk

Hello,
I am an Executive member of Costco in San Diego, Ca.
I have asked your buyer to tell me which Dairy farms are the provider of Costco "Kirkland" brand organic milk. She has declined to provide this information.
It is my strong belief that as a consumer, I should have the right to know exactly where the products I am purchasing, with my hard earned money, are sourced from. I am very disappointed in your lack of transparency in this matter and will strongly consider no longer buying the Kirkland brand, especially items that I am going to be eating and feeding to my family! I can not imagine why you would not want to be as forthcoming as possible with your customers as to where your products are produced. It leads one to suppose that there is something that Costco wishes to hide . This does not instill confidence in the Kirkland brand, or in Costco in general. How can I trust that the answers you give me regarding the milk are honest ones if I you are not forthcoming with the most basic of information, that is ,where does the product derive from ?
In order to maintain customer confidence and satisfaction, I would suggest that you provide information that they require to make informed, intelligent choices!
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration to this matter.
Shawnee

Hi Shawnee,
You can find out where your milk came from (to a degree) without Costco telling you. Visit this website http://www.whereismymilkfrom.com It also works for other dairy products:
•Milk
•Yogurt
•Chocolate milk
•Soy milk and Organic milk
•Coffee creamer
•Cottage cheese
•Some ice cream
•...and plenty more!

I suppose you would want to know which oil field their gas came from too? Who knows? There is no individual diary farm that supplies the millions of gallons of organic milk to Costco or the world. Costco is highly ethical and very picky about all of their products. With millions of members, they also do not have the time to respond to every trivial inquiry. If they say it is organic, it is, plain and simple, organic and held to the highest standards. There is no "magical individual dairy farm" where cows frolic and play in the fields under the sunshine. If you do not trust them, then cancel your membership, stop shopping there, and buy your "organic" milk from the grocer down the street for twice the price, who, by the way, buys the same "organic" milk from the same location(s) as Costco does!

You were raised by parents that said "because I said so" lot, weren't you? I feel it's fine to want to know about the source. Did you know that the FDA doesn't employ enough people to actually inspect all of the farms that supply milk, organic or not? Kudos to this people that question thing! They are the ones that assure us that high standards are consistently being met!

You would hope that they'd learned a lesson by now, and that the milk is truly organic.

Dairy items are not on the list of items which laws or any store policy I am aware of, dictate lables showing country of origin have to be on. That said...
If you want to know where your product comes from, purchase a product that has a label explaining it.

If you want to know exactly where your milk comes from I suggest buying it directly from farmers.
The problem with your request is that you're assuming each jug comes from the same farm when in fact it may be mixed from several organic farms so there's no telling exactly which molecule comes from which farm.
so... if this is extremely important... just go to the farm and buy directly.

1. She refused your request because she doesn't know.
2. While Costco surely is a more ethical megastore company than Sam's Club, it's still a megastore. They probably lie. Like Target's Archer Farms brand lies about being organic (time and time again).
3. Stick to buying your organic foods from companies that focus on this product, such as Organic Valley, Horizon, etc.
