Their #1 in service claim is a lie, they only care while you are paying!

Do NOT get Direct TV if you are looking for good customer service or a good deal!

We signed up last year and had to choose a 2 year contract. They don't have a no contract option. Now we have to move for my job and have 12 months left. They want to charge over $200 for us to disconnect our service.

I would like to keep the service but our new apartment does not allow dishes. I understand that I signed the agreement and was receiving discounted service so I asked for only half of the fee to be waived. I feel this was fair considering it is not my fault that the new apartment will not allow it, even after I tried to persuade them. Direct TV refused and are completely unwilling to help me at all. They have turned a happy customer who would have used their service in the future and recommended it, into a unhappy one who is doing things like this to warn others so they don't get ripped off too!

When I first had the service set up, the customer service was very poor but as time went on the service improved so I was willing to overlook that. But it would seem that was just a ploy while I was paying and now they don't care again.

I would be happy with them again if I could have half of the fee waived.

As far as Directv is concerned, it is your fault that you are moving.
They could care less what your new landlord thinks.

Do I think its fair? No, but it is what it is.

To a location that does not permit dish installation, your landlord or
other property owner only needed to supply an affidavit staying its
not allowed and I believe that is supposed to be enough to break the
contract.

Unless your property owner will not sign this, you should be free and
clear.

You signed the contract knowing there was an early termination fee.
Direct TV doesnt care the circumstances, they only know you are
breaking the contract.

As said below maybe your work will cover the charges.

You agreed to this -- the contract, the penalties for canceling early
-- when you signed up. That's the risk you took. the reason for your
move doesn't matter.

You may want to check with your relocation folks at work. They may
cover expenses like this. Lots of times they do.
