Is it worth losing a long time customer for a Walmart error and $400?

A quick note, I love Walmart! I shop there all the time. A quick search of my credit cards shows that I've spent $1000 in the last few weeks at the Walmart in question, the Supercenter in Anderson, CA. That's not including cash purchases, which are probably a third of the time.
The experience today was far from friendly though, so I'm hoping for a little bit of internet activism.
On Thursday, while buying something else at the garden department checkout, I noticed a flyer. The picture is attached. It's pretty clear in the wording, Steer Manure, $.98, 6 pack for $1.88. Says this right under the word "Specials". Spoke to the clerk on duty, who confirmed the sale price, even after very specific questions about the quantity available and if there were any limits. Asked if there would be any issues bringing down a trailer and buying a LOT of this, answers were clear. No problem, exactly like the ad says. Just gotta show up on Saturday to get the deal.
Saturday morning, hooked up the trailer and headed down to Walmart. When we got there, there were still dozens of PALLETS full of this manure. Thousands of bags, sure made sense for the sale. Went inside and the cashier at the garden department couldn't figure it out. After ten minutes of trying to get her to help us, she calls a department manager, Dino. Dino was surprisingly unhelpful, just kept saying that the ad was for their flowers, which came in 6 packs. Nowhere on that flyer is that mentioned of course. His only concern seemed to be who the cashier was that told us to come down the other day. By this time we are half an hour into this discussion, still waiting for the deal offered on the flyer. Dino disappears for a while, maybe 20 minutes. When he returns, he doesn't even make eye contact with me, but he is trailed by the assistant store manager, Don. Don was outright rude. Looks at the flyer, looks at me like I'm an idiot, then says "everybody knows this is clearly the flowers." I responded with "clearly not the cashier who said this deal was in effect, or anyone reading the flyer". I'm sorry, but I don't think this response is appropriate for the second in command at a large retail store. I asked if there was anything they could do for me, since we already had to get the trailer, waste fuel driving down to Walmart, and wasted an hour talking and waiting to get this deal. Don offered us one 97 cent bag of manure for free, and told us we could buy the rest at 97 cents.

I went there to buy 100 of these 6 packs, 600 bags. I would have spent $188, Walmarts cost on these is something less than $582, probably significantly less. For that $400, they pissed off a customer who spends much more than that in their store every month, ensuring that I'll go to another store whenever possible now. Smart decision? Next time, fire the guy who made the BS flyer, and let the people who went out of their way to collect on the offer get that deal....

First, while I agree that the flyer is laid out poorly, I can see that they are talking about two different items.
Also, it doesn't sound from your letter that the clerk did anything wrong or misled you in any way. According to you, you asked him if the sale price was correct (it was), you asked him if there were limits (there were not any), you asked him if there would be a lot (there were). I don't understand where he steered you wrong or why you are upset with the clerk on duty at the time.

I looked at the flyer and while it's not organized very well, a reasonable person would see that the "six pack" probably had nothing to to with the manure. The reason is that the manure is 97 cents and a 6 pack is $1.88. Obviously (to me), a six pack would be more than $1.88. And, as someone pointed out, manure isn't sold in 6 packs.
Because it looked like a "too good to be true" deal, I would not have asked the clerk about the flyer but rather I would have asked a manager before bringing in a trailer and maybe gotten it in writing.
I can't agree with you that Walmart owes you money. I run a business and there are times I'd rather lose a customer than have to continually deal with a difficult one.

Very poorly laid out flyer. Did the BS come in six packs? Would that not be very heavy? I think the six pack was for the flowers, or maybe a different kind of 6 pack (sodas maybe) the flyer was not clear and yes it looks like maybe the manure did come in a six pack and that was the special. I agree, David. Get a real graphics designer or at least a competent employee with a degree of skill to do the next flyer.

a lot of bull crap.
I looked at the flyer. The different sized font made me think the manure and the six-packs were separate listings. The finger sandwiches were advertised right underneath the organic soil, and I assume they're not related either.
If you are going to ask a clerk very specific questions about the quantity available and if there were any limits, etc., you might want to jot down a name.
