"Extra" charge to my credit card....

Posted Tue April 17, 2012 7:38 am, by Daniel N. written to Wyndham Hotels

Write a Letter to this Company

Good morning,

My name is Daniel N. and I am a Department of Defense (DoD) employee stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky. I traveled to North Little Rock, Arkansas at the end of March to attend training for work and decided to stay at the Wyndham Riverfront Little Rock. My friend and I arrived on the 31st of March and stayed only one night due to the lack of amenities (no free breakfast, refridgerators were not cold, etc). We paid for the one night stay (for a total of $97.18) and checked out on the 1st of April. We found a location closer to our training location AND the new place was cheaper (over $10 cheaper), had a FREE breakfast (not $13 like Wyndham was going to charge), and the amenities were outstanding. After getting my credit card in the mail yesterday (16 April), I noticed an "extra" charge from the Wyndham North Little Rock for a total of $421.00. I am a DoD employee and MUST pay my bill on time or I will get a negative review on my next evaluation report for not paying my full bill on time. I will NOT let this happen.

I want Wyndham to provide a CREDIT of $421 to my charged card IMMEDIATELY to prevent a negative impact on my next evaluation report. There is NO WAY that "extra" charge should have happened since I paid my bill in full upon checkout on the 1st of April. This is totally unacceptable.

My wife used to work at a Wyndham hotel and we have never had this sort of trouble with billing nor lack of amenities to this point. Based upon this stay at the North Little Rock location, I am not sure if I will choose to stay at any Wyndham Hotel in the future nor would I recommend Wyndham hotels to co-workers, family or friends.

I hope we can get this resolved quickly.

Thank you.

I found out after calling the hotel 3 or 4 times to speak with a
manager, that the extra charge was for a chair that was found
"missing" from my room upon checkout. The manager asked if I
accidently took a chair out of the room and didn't return it prior to
departure.

I adamantly told them I didn't see a chair in the room upon arrival
therefore it wouldn't have been my responsibility to pay for the
missing item. She said that the housekeeper inventoried the room
items upon the departure of the last guest and then inventoried the
items upon my checkout. That is when they found the chair missing.

Personally, I think the housekeeping staff is trying to run a scam on
the hotel and stiffing the guests with the charges to missing items.

Almost a month later, I got this fixed and the hotel credited my
Government Credit Card for the full amount.

What was the cancellation policy at the hotel? Unless it was day of
arrival, you could not cancel your reservations for the second, third,
etc. days in time.
Many hotels have a 48 hour or more cancellation policy. Just checking
out does not automatically cancel any other reservations you had.

It sounds to me like you had gotten a special price for your
reservation. Most of those special rates don't allow for
cancellations of any kind and state you will be charged in full. Did
you try to discuss this with them before you left? Did you call them
when you got the bill?

I gather that this charge may have occurred on his company card,
therefore limiting his options for recourse and having potential to
directly impact his employment.

I'd say there is more recourse by jeishere Wed April 18, 2012 @ 9:00 AM

government credit card - o yes. they'll want to have that charge explained by PepperElf Wed April 18, 2012 @ 12:09 PM

by PepperElf Posted Tue April 17, 2012 @ 3:31 PM

What was this charge for?

Remember - just because it's "extra" doesn't mean it's invalid. Say
if there was room damage etc.

What does it say the charge is for on the bill?

If you booked an entire week, then just left...first...did you
actaully check out? Second, did you get a receipt at check-out with a
finalized total on it? You should have. You can still request a copy
of it..they do keep records. If you didn't cancel in time or you
booked through DTS or central travel, they could have canceled for
you.

Seems you left for convenience, not necessity...so the burden is on
you to prove you did the above in order not to be charged. Either
way, dispute the charge on your card...provide backup.

Can you just make the minimum payment to avoid being late? Until the
dispute is settled?

I'm curious what Wyndham said when you called and asked them. You did
call and ask them, correct?

how long was your original reservation for? Sometimes they discount
the nightly rate if you stay multiple nights, but if you cancel, they
usually charge you one night's stay (Which I sure hope wasn't
$421!!!)

As others pointed out, call your credit card IMMEDIATELY and dispute
it. The process usually takes 30 days, so you want to start as soon
as possible.

2nd, make sure you CALL the facility if you haven't already. Speaking
with the head manager or the billing department can sometimes help.

Good luck....

What was the "Extra" charge for?

Should have disputed it rather than paid it. When you pay it you are
agreeing to the charges.
