Complaint!!!!!
Posted Sun April 22, 2012 4:41 pm, by Heather H. written to Darden Resteraunts/ Longhorn Resteraunts
I have just returned from eating at the Longhorn Steakhouse located at 5435 Whittlesey Boulevard, Columbus, GA (706) 576-2141. We arrived at around 2:30 pm on a Sunday the church crowds were gone and it was not very crowded. They gave us an estimated wait time of 15-20 minutes which I found was odd since they had plenty of employees standing around and plenty of unoccupied tables. Our first mistake was taking the hostess up on the offer to sit in the bar area at a high top table. the waiter came right over and took our drink orders and then our food order. Then apparently his shift was over so he closes himself out at the bar and kept saying he had get out of there..(to the other employees, he never informed us) yet he stood there talking and watching basketball. After about 30 minutes I could feel my blood pressure rising, finally someone else brings our food to us and after what seemed like another eternity he finally came to offer us dessert. I politely (although by this point I'm feeling everything but polite) I said I am just ready to get the check and go, I feel like I have been here forever.... he looks at me blankly and says.. It's not because of the service is it?? (Well DUH!!) I said Yes, it actually is. He just looked at me blankly and walked off.. no apology, no manager no nothing. Just to make matters worse I had the worst steak I have ever had in my life, the food was terrible and the service was worse. Just to be clear I am highly upset with this resteraunt.
I would like to be fully or partially reimbursed for having the worst meal of my life, along with even worst service. We paid $38.00 and all we came away with was a headache.

I strongly believe that if you can't muster up the adultness long enough to deal with your bill WHILE THERE IN THE RESTAURANT, then you don't get a refund when you send a letter after the fact.

"cos yeah employees always close out at the end of their shift... yet magically remain clocked in."
Even though you are being snarky, you are exactly right. When working the day shift, the bar tender is likely to tend the bar and wait tables in the bar area. If his replacement is scheduled to start at 4 the he would close out his drawer so his replacement can start with a fresh till and take on any new trasactions. It has nothing to do with being on or off the clock, it has to do with the cash register.
I'm not splitting hairs, I've been a server so I know how it works. I usually worked the dinner shift but I would often close out early so I could count my tips knowing I still had to clean my section and roll silverware before I could leave. Just because I cashed out did not mean I was free to go or could just abandon any tables I had.
When I was a server we all cashed out before our shift was over so we could count out

you've decided the op meant what you associate with closing out. i don't recall the OP claiming to be a server but you've decided she must have meant it that way.
i guess that's fine. it makes it easier to demand that an off-duty employee continues to provide service if you decide that he can't possibly be off duty.
after all he owes the customer everything, even if he's done for the day. he still has to serve, no?
