Don't buy a bed at Macy's

You are an adult you should know you need to buy a bed frame...

I just bought a new bed frame last year. The sign on the price
advertised the price of the Twin, Full, Queen, and King. It didnt say
anywhere that the mattress was not included in that price. However, I
knew exactly what I was getting bexcause I asked. I told the sales
person that I only needed a frame and asked to make sure that the
price was for the frame only as I didnt want to pay for a matress and
box springs that I didnt need and had no place to store. The sales
person commented that most young people like me dont ask those kinds
of questions. They just assume every thing they need is included in
the price. I even asked if it required any special tools to put it
together.

I purchased my Macy's bed in Atlanta in the late 80's. It came with a
frame. Matter of fact I still sleep on it today.

Anyway store should be sure to let the customer know if the frame is
not included or if it is an extra charge.

1st time buyers will need a frame. Someone changing sizes of bed will
need a frame.

So store should not assume everyone would know they would have to pay
for a frame.

I could understand this complaint if the salesperson was specifically
told by you that you would be needing the frame as well. From the
sounds of it, you just expected that the mattress came with the frame.
I really don't understand that line of thinking since all beds and
bed frames are not created equally. I have always purchased the bed
and frame separately, not as part of the mattress purchase. Usually
because I can find a much better deal through Craig's List or the
like. Telling the salesperson that you have no furniture does not
equate to telling them you need a frame. They may have been under the
impression that you would be purchasing a frame/bed elsewhere, or that
you would be placing the mattress on a box spring on the floor. Why
they didn't ask you whether you would be needing a frame I don't know,
and in my opinion they should have. However, considering you were
depending upon the frame, I would have thought you would have been
proactive in making sure you had asked specifically whether the frame
was coming with the mattress.

Bed frames are cheap...just go buy one and consider it a lesson
learned. If your mattress has a warrantee, be careful to read it to
make sure you buy a frame that supports the bed in the manner
prescribed to keep your warrantee valid (some will require center
support frames, some will require slatted boards with center support,
etcetera). Read EVERY WORD and don't skimp on a cheapo frame or you'll
have a bed that sags in the middle no matter how good the mattress was
to start with.

If the letter writer mentioned 3 times that she also needed a frame
along with the bed, then Macy's should provide free delivery of the
frame to the letter writer. The writer should - of course - have to
pay for the frame, but NOT the delivery charge.

End of story.

Sounds alright to me. I bought a new bed, and the frame cost
$40-something extra. many people don't need the frame because they
already have one.

I have never seen a bed automatically come with a bed frame. Usually
the assumption is you are replacing a bed and do not need a new
frame.

That being said the sales person should have specifically asked if you
needed one or not.

You should just just buy a bed frame, is one owed to you? No.

Most stores charge extra for the frame. While the salesperson should
have told you, you could also have checked the receipt before you left
the store. When my wife and I were shopping for beds for our vacation
home, the posted prices in the stores we went to clearly stated the
bed frames were separate.

was the frame included in the first place? i mean was it in the
purchase order / contract.
