never had to worry about upgrading cos... you don't get free phones to begin with.
pay full price for the phone and then a reasonable rate for service. plus calls to other SB J users was free from 2am to 9pm (yes 19 hours a day), texts to other SB J users were free 247.
which brings up another issue. breaking contracts. pretty easy cos it's a monthly contract. so once you say "ok i'm done!" you have one final monthly bill and then you're off the hook.
the thing is... americans DO have that option. The problem is... no one really wants to pay full price for a phone to get it.
IMO people are too accustomed to thinking they're entitled to free stuff all the time.
Why do people feel the need to upgrade phones constantly? I have had my phone for over 2 years and passed my upgrade date without even thinking of upgrading. It works, why take the chance that I get the newest coolest phone just to have it work half as good. Not to mention the phone just did a system update and now it looks new.
so long they laughed when they saw it. It was the"candy bar" style. And yes they were quick to get me something more "modern". So I got the (after some research) Hero Android (it's been great) and plan to have it several more years.
