Please help remove a dispute from my credit report

I am happy to report that I received a letter in the mail from
Citibank saying that they will delete the account from my credit
report and they forwarded this information to Equifax, TransUnion and
Experian. I am extremely satisfied with their turn around. It seems
that the 1-866-713-5028 phone number was the correct one. The total
turnaround time was a week. Not bad considering I had read it could
take months.

Actually, (I work in the mortgage industry) what happened is that she
probably had a dispute with the creditor that she filed in 2006.
Obviously the dispute was resolved becuase she paid the account but
the credit bureaus never updated her reports saying dispute resolved
(which they are supposed to do within 30 days I believe). We've seen
several of these "lingering" disputes where the customers response is
"what, I disputed a that years ago and it's all taken care of". The
customer has no way of knowing until they apply for credit that the
credit bureaus still show the account in dispute and Fannie Mae does
require that the dispute be removed. The only way to do that is the
get a letter from the creditor (which makes no sense to me since the
consumer initiated the dispute) and the lender has to do a rapid
rescore (or wait 30 days for the bureaus to update). It's costly and
very aggravating. The reason for the guideline though is that when an
account is "in dispute" that tradeline is not factored into the credit
score so you could realistically dispute all your bad credit, pull a
report immediately and get a much higher score than what you really
have.

One suggestion to the letter writer though, if you are not doing a
"HARP" refinance (which you probably likely are) you can switch it to
Freddie Mac and run their system. They usually have more flexibility
on this matter. However, if you are doing a HARP loan that is not an
option for you and I'm sympathetic to your problem. :-(

AS I understand it the 7 year clock starts ticking when the account
goes into collections or as of the date of your last payment. In this
case my guess is this account is as yet to "age off" your report which
would appear to oocur sometime this year.
