You guys are FANTASTIC!

I applied for a credit card with Citi, becuase I was thinking about getting cards more worthwhile than what I have now.
I file my application, click the submit button and get a notice that I will have to wait a week in order to get my response. I also checked the option that they should e-mail me the results, not send it through the mail.
With other companies, if this happened I would give them a prompt call back to see if there is anything additional they needed in order to process my app. So I give Citi a call. The CSR I get is talking in an estatic (sarcasm) mood.
"You were denied because you didn't score enough points for our system, blahblahblah, you have a high utilization ratio, blahblahblah, we sent you something in the mail"
I didn't score enough points. Fair enough. My high util can be explained by that I have joke credit limits. When your CCs add up to a total limit of 5 grand, it doesn't make much to let it get up to 40% util buying everyday necessities. Too bad I don't pay in full before the statement reports right?
So I ask if I can get a reconsideration. She goes, "You need to submit another application and fax us the most recent credit report for Transunion"
Why would I need to submit another application? and why on EARTH would I need to fax them a copy of my credit report? They better not have pulled my report! (of course they did) ... lovely.
If they're really that incompetent I'll keep my business elsewhere.
By all means keep doing what you're doing! I'll be a loyal and timely cardmember for other companies who I'm grateful for who gave me credit cards.
I'm not so mad about getting denied, more about how the rep treated me! Incredible.

Are you saying you spend on average, $2,000 per month buying necessities? What necessities? Your credit limits on the existing cards are low for a reason and because of this, Citi wants nothing to do with you.

Are you kidding me? All low limits or not, at that level, it's no wonder they opted to pass!
And then your sarcastic tone and dismissive attitude about WHY they declined you ("You were denied because you didn't score enough points for our system, blahblahblah, you have a high utilization ratio, blahblahblah, we sent you something in the mail") certainly does you no favors.
Yeah, I would certainly stick to whoever you're with now. It would undoubtedly be best for everyone involved!

Yes. The FAX actually helps you.
1) Do you think they save your credit report on their hard drives? They don't. That would be a BIG informational security risk.
2) Having you FAX it over means they don't have to run ANOTHER HARD CHECK on your credit. Too many hard checks can hurt your credit report and make it harder to get a new card.
3) As for the mail - AFAIK I've never heard of an email option for that. If it's not approved you have to wait for the mail to deliver it. Especially since snail mail has more protection in place than unsecured email.
But hey if you want to ignore their process for reapplying go for it. Just remember that their procedures probably aren't different than any other credit card company. And the more times you apply for credit the more hard checks you'll get on your report... (see #2 again).

I don't understand why you say this
Of course they pulled your credit report---how else can they determine if you are credit worthy?

There's a reason why you have such low credit limits on your cards. I don't see how the CSR treated you poorly. You called them to ask why you were denied. They are under no obligation to tell you the reason. The fact that they did is in your favor.Try paying in cash more often and keep the balances on your cards lower. This will raise your credit score and allow you to apply for a higher limit card in the future.

I want to get one thing straight, I'm not saying that I'm entitled to credit if that's the impression you got. Nooooo, never. This is their money ;) and they can be as picky as they want to be. We can have a field day about credit scores and whatnot. But that's not what I care about. At the end of the day I want to be treated as a person. Respectfully. Everyone does.
In my experience, the times where I had to call for a credit card company, I was treated respectfully and given careful consideration.
It is Citi's choice to give out a flat out, "no". But to say it in ways such as "Reapply and submit a credit report" I took it as "Why don't you look at your own CR and see if you would think you would want to lend yourself money", and to that rep, I actually do have a current TU report so I saw what they saw.
