Please allow me to exchange a defective item of clothing

Posted Fri May 25, 2012 12:32 pm, by Michelle W. written to Joyce Leslie, Inc.

Write a Letter to this Company

I purchased a shirt on my credit card at the store located in Whitehall, PA on May 5, 2012. I wore it twice and the shirt came apart. I went to the store and informed them of what happened. However, because I did not have the reciept they stated that I would have to call the corporate office. I informed the manager that I did have proof through my credit card that i did purchase the shirt on that date. Michelle, the manager stated that I could speak with someone at corporate and they could give her permission for me to exchange it. I was not trying to get my money back, just exchange it. So I called the corporate office. The woman who answered the phone was extremely rude. I was transferred to a recording that stated that I needed to write a letter to them telling them what happened. On the recording it stated that I needed to return the shirt unworn with the tags and the receipt.
First the shirt was worn and came apart. I no longer had the tags and misplaced the receipt. I went back into the store and informed Michelle, the manager, that no one would speak to me, that I had to write a letter. I pointed out that she clearly misled me about how to address this matter.
My conclusion is that it is not ok for me to lose a reciept but it is ok for Joyce Leslie to sell me a defective item of clothing for 30.00. I feel like Joyce Leslie just stole 30.00 from me.

I would like Joyce Leslie to allow me to exchange my shirt for another item of equal value. I believe that is fair and the right thing to do. Other stores such as Victoria Secret stand by thier products. Their policy is that one may return an item without the receipt at any time. That is standing behind the quality of your merchandise. This leads one to question the Joyce Leslie's return policy in relation to the quality of thier product....!

since you paid for it with your credit card, and since what you
purchased is defective, maybe you would be able to dispute the charge
with you credit card company?? Seems worth a shot anyway.

my daughter loves that store and I had an issue with a gift that was
defective and had the tag still on it but I didnt have the receipt (I
asked gift giver and they had tossed it), I actually did a planet
feedback, called corporate talked to store managers, didnt get
anywhere (it was a jacket that had a tear in a seam).

I finally sent my daughter in and bought a new one, used the receipt
to return the old one, showed them the rip so no one else got stuck
purchasing the defective one, they happily issued me a refund.

Maybe not quite kosher, but it works and is way easier than fighting
with them for a few weeks (which I did), and at the end everyone was
happy

First of all, Joyce Leslie does not sell quality products - you're
lucky you're only out $30. And I was curious, so I went to Victoria
Secret's website and this is what I found re: returns: Bring your
items to a store near you. Don’t forget your invoice! Our sales
associates are unable to process a return or an exchange without an
invoice.

You didn't have a receipt. Period. Therefore, Michelle, the manager on
site could do nothing for you and told you to call corporate. How
would Michelle know what corporate was going to tell you?

She did NOT mislead you.

It's not fair to accuse the manager of misleading you when it was out
of her hands due to YOU losing the receipt.

Anyone can steal a shirt, wear it, rip it whatever and try to return
it or, heck, exchange it for something that wasn't so "shopliftable"
at the time. The receipt is your PROOF that you are entitled to that
return/exchange. Not saying you stole the shirt, but shoplifting and
returning the item for cash or exchange is one of the biggest scams
out there. Thats why places are so strict about requiring proof.

Without proof, it makes sense that they are going to make you jump
through some hoops for it.

That's the way a lot of stores are these days, no receipt = no return
and sometimes no exchange. It's not there fault that you lost the
receipt and misplaced the tags.

i don't see where it's their fault that the receipt is missing.

Crap service and crap merchandise. I's rather shop thrift stores!
Consider yourself lucky it was only $30.
