Stale candy........:(

Posted Thu May 31, 2012 2:00 pm, by Dennis T. written to Hershey Foods Corporation

Write a Letter to this Company

I purchased 6 rolls of "rolo" candies this morning on my way to work. I find that these brand of candy are best for me to snack on all day at work to help me stop smoking. I have been buying numerous rolls of rolo's for about a month now.
This morning's purchase really upset me deeply. I opened my first roll when I arrived at work and the candies were all white and I even tasted one and they taste very nasty to me. I eat them 5 days a week and know what they should taste like and was very, very furious. I had to toss out all 6 rolls I purchased. I called the gas station I bought them at and they informed me that I could not get a refund that I had to contact the maker of the candy.
I hope that you will either refund me my $6.90 that I pay EACH DAY of the work week (I'm seeking just one day refund for the bad candy) or send me coupons to purchase fresh ones. I appreciate your taking time to read my complaint. I also look forward to hearing from you about resolving the issue.

I don't like chocolate that has bloomed either. However, I do not
understand why you would throw them out and then expect to get a
refund or replacement. The candy company would want the production
numbers of the rolls and the store would want the product back. Hope
you get some resolution. Maybe you should switch to lollipops. Cheaper
and longer lasting.

Not sure how the letter writer is trading one addiction for the
other.

Sugar and candy aren't addictive...and nobody goes into withdrawal
from suddenly stopping eating candy or sugar.

Nicotine, on the other hand, LOOK OUT!

Actually, lots of research now says sugar is very addictive. People
get hooked on the sugar high.

the oral addiction part is the addiction to having something in your
mouth. oral fixation if you prefer.

be it gum, candy, pens... it's the addiction of having something in
your mouth. if you're not careful it can lead to several side
effects

- tooth damage, depending on what you're chewing (be it candy or pens
etc)

- diarrhea (if you're using sugar free products that have alcohol
sugars). and OMG when they say "laxative effect" what they really
mean is "if you have too much you're going to poop yourself raw".
:-(

plus of course there's added weight gain. smokers tend to put on a
few pounds when they quit. Nicotine is an appetite suppressant, so
just dropping smokes alone will affect your desires for foods. And
when you substitute candy for smokes that will just make it even more
pronounced.

and yes, sugar addictions exist.

you can break the habit though.

LIke I said there's other options to take besides just candy when
dropping the smokes.

You can exercise, eat healthy snacks, drink water. I mean sure have
candy if you want but don't discount the other options too

I'd quit buying these at gas stations and get them somewhere with
better storage conditions. Bloom is caused by heat exposure, and
while it doesn't always affect taste heat and cold cycling certainly
could.

You can order a full box, 36 rolls, on line from Amazon or several
other providers. The Amazon price is $28 for the whole box, plus
shipping - call it $34 total. That has to beat whatever the gas
station charges. (and before anyone asks, they're not sold directly
by Amazon so no you can't get their free shipping.)
