Did you go to school or did you drop out or something? You're as dumb
as a box of rocks. Lactose is naturally in milk, and yes millions are
lactose intolerant, like myself, and many of them still drink milk and
eat cheese, like myself. And while there are millions intolerant,
there are billions who are not.

Get a life.

Lactose = "milk sugar." It is the natural sugar that occurs in milk,
just like fructose is the name of the natural sugar that occurs in
fruit. It is not an artificial chemical that is added to milk. You
can't ban lactose without banning milk.

My brother (who is an M.D.) is lactose intolerant. He has found he
can consume a certain amount of product containing lactose without
suffering G.I. problems.

In order to figure out how much he could consume, he kept a food diary
- and was thus able to balance it out ~ didn't have the cheese or milk
or yogurt if he wanted to have ice cream later on with his kids.

FYI he doesn't consume soy or lactose free products - just has figured
out his tolerance.

Good luck.

i'm lactose intolerant and have tried the lactose free version and
hate the taste of it, so i have figured out what limit my body can
handle and don't drink anymore milk than that.

besides if you don't want to have to search for the lactose free milk
then why should i have to search for regular milk? there are fewer
people who are lactose intolerant than those who aren't so why would
companies cater to the minority?

I am lactose intolerant as well. As I got older I noticed that I
could not drink milk or eat ice cream any longer with out having
horrible side effects. So I modifyed my diet. I now purchase lactose
free milk. I will torment myself once in a while when I want
ice-cream but I know the concequences. I can eat cheese...but not
yogurts. I have just learned to deal with it. I dont think that
lactose should be banned. Why? My diet restrictions are my problem,
not anyone else's so why shoudl anyone else suffer?

There are approximately 6,970,442,289 (That's BILLION there if you
weren't sure) on the planet right now. I serious doubt that there are
"Millions" suffering from lactose intolerance.

Yes, quite a few these days as more and more allergies surface, but
still not enough to justify changing the content of milk and raising
the price to cover the change just to satisfy the minority.

& it isn't like there aren't alternatives for those who are lactose
intolerant, so I guess I still don't get the logic of this.

The OP could always follow PETA's suggestion and not drink milk at
all. Problem solved.

http://www.peta.org/issues/animals-used-for-food/Cows-Milk-A-Cruel-and
-Unhealthy-Product.aspx

The OP says people are deprived of vitamin D because they are afraid
of lactose in milk. Here are lots more vitamin D sources. Problem
solved.

http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/vitamind-HealthProfessional/

If this doesnt suit the OP, he can also take the advise others have
given and CHOOSE lactose free milk. Problem solved.

As a side note, I hate the taste of milk and it has not crossed my
lips in years. I also have a slight lactose tolerance issue. I can
eat rich yogurt, such as greek yogurt and real 100% cheese. But I
cant get NEAR ice cream or "low fat" yogurt and cheese or melted
cheese, such as on a pizza.

Other Posters have mentioned that there are lactose free products.

Other posters have mentioned that there are over the counter remidies
to prevent lactose intolerance.

Why not try those alternatives.

Why should everyone else not be able to enjoy dairy products with
lactose in them?

Shouldn't they be able to do consume whatever dairy products they want
to even if the product has lactose in it?

the whole World should have to endure this burden just because YOU
can't have it?

This is like saying take calcium out of milk!

& FTR, lactose is a sugar. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactose) It's
not like it's an additive like MSG. It's already in there. The
"Lactose free" substitutes are all chemically altered to remove that
and leave a "milk-like" product.

& Just don't eat it - problem solved!

I'm having a little bit of cognitive dissonance here. Lactose is the
naturally occurring sugar in milk which is broken down by lactase, an
enzyme and if someone lacks that enzyme, it leads to lactose
intolerance. There's no reason to "ban" lactose and doing so would
require all milk to be chemically altered.

Lactose isn't a health issue. Most people can digest it just fine.

If you're lactose intolerant, I'm sorry. I truly am. But it's your job
