Cashier on personal phone call on his cell phone while cashing me out

Write a Letter to this Company

I came into the Dollar Tree Store in Penfield, NY on 6/14/2012 @ 7:10 pm to pick up some poster board. The line was long, so the main cashier called up an associate to open another register. I appreciated this action since i was in a hurry. The cashier that came up did not have any company gear on to indicate that he was an employee. Additionally, he was on his cell phone on a personal phone call while cashing me out.
I am appalled at his behavior, but what strikes me worse is that this behavior is permitted in a customer service oriented environment. I realize that I am of a different generation, but I would never conceive of doing such a thing. Shame on this individual for this behavior. This needs to be addressed. I know that my time on this trip was quick, but I frequent this dollar tree often and this encounter makes me want to reconsider where I spend my time and my money.

This employee needs to be reprimanded, warned, written up, and if it happens again, terminated.

Seriously? I drop lots of expectations of polite service when I shop
at a dollar-type store once a year. The regular customers seem rather
trashy and the attitudes of the people who work there seem to reflect
the tiredness of having to interact with trashy customers all day
long, every day.

Dollar Tree is not about customer service (no returns/no refunds, for
example). They are about unloading cheap stuff as quickly as
possible.

So an additional cashier was called over to help get you out quickly
and just because he was on his cell you are appalled?

Since he wasnt in uniform there is a good chance he wasnt even on the
clock or working that day. He might have just jumped on the register
to help out while he was there. Try to be a bit appreciative and not
want him repremanded for helping.

While I agree people shouldnt be on their cell phones while doing
business (employees or customers!!) I think you should be grateful he
helped out.

That he was off the clock, in there for some other reason and decided
to jump in and help out.

He should have just let her stand in the line. That'll learn him!

some employees get aggitated over customers blabbing on the phone and
conversely, some customers get upset over staff running their mouths
on personal business. It would definitely seem that the common
denominator here is the cell phones.

It's sad that so many in this country have zero consideration and/or
common sense!

While I agree the cashier should not have been on the phone, I think
your reaction is a might strong. Perhaps the appalling behavior is
based on the content of his conversation. Next time (if there is a
next time) withhold your items and wait for him to get off the phone.
Also speaking to a manager immediately would have solved this problem
for the next customer. And yes, I am sure there are guidelines in
place for the continued behavior.
