Expedia books into unsafe hotels

Posted Mon July 2, 2012 11:12 pm, by Ron L. written to Expedia, Inc.

We booked a hotel stay with Expedia by phone. The agent had no clue what she was doing and put us on hold for almost 45 minutes. She also booked us into a hotel that nobody should stay in. It is disgusting and completely unsafe. We were almost robbed before even getting to the room! We left immediately.

First, refund our charge. Second, change policy to not allow phone agents the ability to book hotels with one-star. At the very least, consumers should be informed of the low rating.

1) When you book pay attention to how many stars the hotel has. Don't
expect as much safety if you're booking into a 1-star hotel that's
dirt cheap.

Often those hotels are often used by drug dealers and hookers.

As for them offering one-star hotels... remember YOU have the ability
to turn down any offer.

2) Consider looking the address up online when you rent.

For example... when my BF and I rented a hotel for DragonCon last year
we delayed so we ended up having to book a crappy room in a hotel
across the road from a homeless shelter.

We had people eyeballing us sometimes, and at least one person who
started trailing us. My BF had the Fox Green semi-concealed and the
top flipped up so he wouldn't fumble it if he needed to pull it out.
He said a couple of people shied away when they realized what was in
his hand.

Was this the fault of anyone in the hotel? No. They're not
responsible for the city streets and what happens off of their
property.

Just as expedia isn't responsible for that either.

As for your refund... read your contract. Since you canceled after
you checked in I'm not sure what their policy is.

What did they tell you?

Maybe I'm wrong, but expedia seems its mostly setup to make
reservations online and not through the phone.

If you want service like you are expecting, go to a travel agent, not
expedia.

How can expedia know that you will get robbed? It doesnt matter what
the hotel is, the Ritz near me had a guest get assaulted and robbed a
couple of years ago.
