JCPenney Sells Nothing but Junk

As an Illinois transplant to California, JC Penney used to be a higher end store. I shopped Woodfield very often. My daughter has an account here in Tracy, CA and we shop the Modesto store. I recently bought a sectional to the tune of $2200 which included the warranty. Shortly after receiving the sectional I noticed that it was sorely lacking enough polyfill and was not keeping it's shape. My previous furniture is 10 years old made by Krause's and is in perfect condition.
I am a widow and live alone with a small dog and lightweight cat. The first time I had a tech come out I had him fill the backs of the sleeper section, he used polyfill from a cushion he brought with him. I thought that was the end of the problem.
I've had company 3 times since I've owned the couch. I have noticed that the polyfill does not spring back, dents stay dents. the stitching from one piece to another does not line up and the recliner is crooked. All things I pointed out to the tech. I also made a comment that there was a groove on the back of the couch where the cat had slept a few times, it never sprung back.
I received a phone call while I was away that the determination was that my cat was causing the problems and I had no recourse for the couch to be taken back as it is my belief that it will not last 10 year. I am 66 now and wanted furniture that would perhaps outlive me. This won't.
The tone of the agent on the phone infurieted me and I called in saying this was not an acceptable conclusion. I live in an area where it takes forever to get a tech out here that's why I've had the couch this long and it's taken so long to have the problem resolved. I wanted them to take it back. This is not chump change to me.
What has happened to JC Penney, clothing is junk. My daughter and I buy it as throw away clothing, knowing that we will wear it a few times and it will be ready for the rag bag. Now I know the furniture is junk too. I've bought my share of furniture in my life and even the cheapest has been higher quality than this.
I am so offended by the way this has been handled, I won't shop in your store and will encourage my daughter to close her account and of course all my friends will hear about it.

as for the clothes, shope somewhere else that have better quality. just because jcpenny is well known, and their clothes are reasonable priced, doesnt mean that thier quality is great. i suggest ann taylor loft only because i shop there all the time hahha, but its just an advice, and their clothes have great quality. they can be anywhere from $49 discounted to 14.88 as final sale. but you dont have to take my words for it. if you'd like to shop online, heres the website www.anntaylorloft.com
it does have a shipping fee though. and the sofa, my parente have sofas and couches from the 80's that are even BETTER built compared to new ones. they keep it clean by keeping the structure, but changing the padding and design cloth. i hope you feel better.
not only that, it cant be your cat. CATS ARE VERY CLEAN ANIMALS. they like to chase things, hide, sleep, clean themselves, but not ruin couches and sofas. thats just silly. unless they climb it, and its leather, but that damage can be easily fixed.

Does JCP actually manufacture the sofa? If I go to a store here in Cleveland, they have brands like Broyhill, Lane, Ashley, La-Z-Boy, etc. I would think the issue should be taken up with the manufacturer rather than JCP. Unless JCP actually makes the couch, it's kind of difficult to understand how they are responsible for it.

JCP went through bankruptcy a few years back. Surprised so many of you are expecting high-end.

I have never purchased furniture from JCPenney, but I agree with you about the clothes. I stopped buying my daughter's clothing from the Junior Department because everything really was junk. I too used to call them throw away clothes because after one washing they did look like rags. The last thing I bought were some Arizona denim shorts. When I took them out of the dryer, they were so curled up I couldn't straighten them out. I took them back, and it was the last time I ever bought clothes from JCP. That was a long time ago, but I see from your letter that not much has changed.
About your couch though, it sounds like it's made similar to the foam pillows that hold indentations and don't spring back. I don't understand the reasoning behind those pillows, and it certainly doesn't make any sense for a couch.
I hope they can resolve this to your satisfaction.

I agree. I remember when I could find cute, affordable fun clothes, as well as suits, etc., for work, at JCP. I last went to a JCP over 10 years ago, and it was horrible. I think a 90-year-old woman was the women's clothing buyer for the store, because I couldn't even find PAJAMAS I liked. The selection was outdated, racks were crammed tight, even the underwear was old-lady stuff. (I had a credit I needed to use.)
When I walk through JPC to get to the rest of the mall, it's rarely busy. I'm surprised they're still in business. I suppose it does well in other parts of the country.
