Immature Employee at JCPenney Portrait Studio

I did already speak with your customer service rep. about this incident on Wednesday, October 15 at 3:00 pm but I wanted to add a comment or two.
The employee (boy) which I had problems with said he had a 3:00 interview with someone who was in the mall at the time. I then heard him call the interviewee and tell her to hurry and get there (maybe she was his friend?). She came sauntering in at 3:30 which I imagine was her appointment time, not 3:00 as your employee stated. If she had been coming for a job interview at 3:00, she would not have been slowly walking in at 3:30 so he could have taken us in for our photos and he would have been done by the time she got there at 3:30. Instead of taking us, he sat at the desk with nothing to do but sit there with his hands under his chin and his eyes closed like he was taking a nap. He was doing this as we waited as sure business for you as walk ins.
He said he has to honor his 3:00 appointment but if they don't even show up until 3:30 or 4:00 then you have missed out on a sure sale by not taking a walk in who was there at 2:45...this is not good business.
Now, I can't have my portraits (two children with two sitting fees) done by Penneys which I have been doing for years because of the timing of my husband's off days. We would have to come back in on a Wednesday but do not want to have that employee take our photos. We have no choice but to go to Sears this year. We (Edward and Melody) have been customers of J.C. Penney for years and have never been treated with anything but respect from your employees.
As I mentioned in my call to your customer service dept, when I asked your employee to put in writing that you "don't accept walk-ins before 6:00 pm", he told me I can't give it to you in writing because "I don't know how to write". This is very rude and insolent! This boy should not be given a position like he has in a mall setting and left alone with no supervisor, apparently he is not mature enough to handle the responsibilty and I hope you have reprimanded him accordingly.
Thank you for listing to my complaint and I hope we can do business again in the future.
I would like this employee (3:00 pm Oct 15th) reprimanded and put under supervision. I would also like some kind of compensation for my time to travel all the way from Southeast Yonkers to your Palisades Mall store in West Nyack NY just to get our photos done and then to have to go back home without them. I've never had a problem with a walk in appointment before so I did not make an appointment this time. I will do so in the future though if we decide to come back to Penneys.

I don't understand. This was a "kid" working at the studio who had an interview with a girl at 3? As in a job interview? Shouldn't there have been a manager there to conduct a job interview while the kid could take customers? And regarding his status as a "kid", do you really expect blatant maturity from a kid working at a mall?
Further to the point, however, you were a walk-in, and therefore subject to the hazards of waiting through the designated times of appointments that were called in and in this case, an interview that was probably made days in advance. If it upset you so much you could have found another portrait studio to walk into. There's a pretty good chance this kid will just be asked if what you said is true and tell them "no", so don't expect to be compensated. It just sounds like another customer expecting something for free.

Solution - call for an appointment. Better yet - they now do appointments scheduled on the internet.
I have always had my pictures done at JC Penney. I try to schedule the 1st one of the day because I know they can get backed up. They have done a wonderful job and are much cheaper than places like the Picture People.
You deserve absolutely no compensation. Next time, schedule an appointment.

I agree with your complaint, especially if the interview appointment was actually scheduled for 3:30, and you were there at 2:45. I think the employee did behave like a child, which is probably why he needed a nap. His response to you about not knowing how to write says it all. I don't think this person should be left alone at any job or in charge of anything.
It would be nice if Penney's gave you some sort of compensation to encourage you to return... maybe a free photo or upgrade.

If you knew your husband's days off were limited (although I don't see the relevance of that when the pictures are of your children!) why didn't YOU make an appointment like the other patron? That way you can be assured of getting the time you wanted.
As for compensation for your time and travel when you were a walk-in customer? Uh, no. The whole point of walk-in is you take your chances that they are available when you aren't. Likewise, you can walk away without any penalty if they can't accomodate you.
Whether you had a valid complaint or not, the whole tonr of this letter makes it very difficult to feel any empathy or side with you on this one.
And speaking of rude and insolent, so is referring to employees as "boys." It's a little hypocritical calling someone ELSE'S maturity into question when you write a letter like this

So hes supposed to take a walk in over an appoiment. So what you got there at 2:45 and hes scheduled appoinment was at 3:00. I really don't see how he done anything wrong. He can't start taking your pictures and then have the appointment come in and make her wait. And finally he told you that the appointment has til 3:30 and she showed up exactly at 3:30,yes it was rude of her but some people know how to bend the rules.

Just wondering, but did you wait around the studio from 2:45 to 3:30? And if so, why? And then what happened after the girl got there? Did you leave then?

lifetouch(who runs jcp portraits) is an awful company, they rip people off and treat their employees like slaves..... dont worry im sure that employee will get fired for what he said.... If he was doing an interview, he was the manager, only managers do interviews.

You're right, if in fact the employee spoke to you in the manner described, he was rude.
By the way, what time was your appointment for?
