WE recently went to a store and purchased $5000 in gift certificates. We were never ask why we were purchasing the certificates. These certificates were bought to send to a scam artist. We were told by two individuals that our grandson had been arrested and needed Bond money for his relief. WE thought we talked to our grand son on the phone and he said he needed this bond money. It was not our grand son although it sounded just like his voice. Later we learned our grandson was in school and had never been arrested by any police official. I think store officials should question older folks who purchase large gift certificates. We learned a very hard lesson and lost our money

Question why they are purchasing such large Gift Certificates.

This is a very old scam. Sorry you were duped, but if I went into a
store to buy gift certificates or anything else, and the clerk asked
me what I wanted them for, I'd tell them it was none of their
business!!

I've never heard of gift certificates being viable currency to bail
someone out of jail.

Some stores like CVS have policies where they are not allowed to seLL
gift certificates in large denominations or large quantities. I think
it's a great idea.
