Astronomical Juniper Interest Rate for Current Cusomter

I have been a Juniper Bank US Airways cardholder for several years now and have had a pleasant experience until the beginning of this year. I noticed one day after logging into my account that my interest rate had been jacked up to over 29%. I called customer service and asked for the interest rate to me lowered. The gentleman I talked to on the phone said they he did see some "offers" on my account and said that he would need to transfer me to an account specialist. The lady I talked to looked into my account and said that she noticed several lates and overlimit periods and that she cannot do anything for six months. This past year I have been a full-time student with little to no income, but somehow still managed to pay my bills. My Juniper bill might have been late several times, but it was absolutely never more than one month late.
I would like Juniper Bank to consider lowering my astronomical interest rate that is currently 29.99%. I find that this rate is unfair for a loyal customer who is still paying his statement monthly and has every intention to continue paying the balance and using the card for purchases. Thank you for your help.

29.99% sucks as an interest rate, but the customer service representative mentioned that they might be able to offer you a better rate after 6 months. I would take them up on that offer and just try to not only pay on time each month, but also pay down the balance as much as you can. Once you've showed them you have played by their rules and gotten the debt down, they will probably work with you some what on the rate.

In situations like this, you need to approach this as an "You want, I want" and not an "I want."
First, think about what Juniper wants. They want you to pay your bills on time OR to get paid fees/interest when you don't.
This part shouldn't be a surprise. It's how credit cards work. And the terms are spelled out in your agreement.
So, we have a situation where you've not paid on time, in your own words, "several times." While there may be darn good reasons, you need to focus on what Juniper wants. You have not given them what they want, which is a reliable customer that pays on time.
So, they've taken advantage of that, no doubt, by making your interest rate 29.99%. That's an incredibly large number, for sure. But given that you've not held up your end of the bargain (paying consistently on time), they're going to punish you in a way that's (for now) legal and within the agreement. One that you agreed to, whether you realize it or not.
OK, so how do you get what you want? Which is, I presume, a much lower rate and the ability to be late in paying, on occasion.
In order for you to get what you want, you have to consider what you can offer to allow Juniper get what they want.
What can you offer? Can you offer a guarantee of no further late payments? Would you be willing, for example, to allow them to charge you $1000 late fee in exchange for you going back to your old rate? Would you be willing to accept the new 29.99% rate, in exchange for you being able to have an additional 15 days grace period?
Your letter focuses on what you want. Their rate may be astronomical, but they've got the upper hand.
Which means that you can pay off the card and stop using it, if you choose. Or you can seek ways to give them what THEY want so that you can have what YOU want.

Your Juniper bill wasn't late, your Juniper payment was late, maybe several times. "A little late" doesn't make a difference. And they look at other "late payments" now as well, when weighing the risks. Your intentions are admirable, it shows you're trying to be responsible, and that, alone, means a lot.

"My Juniper bill might have been late several times"
They can consider it late and slap you with a late fee for being a minute late. They were within their rights to jack your rates.
Let this be a lesson about credit cards. If you play with the snakes, you are going to eventually get bit.
Good Day
