Renovated KFC Stores are Still Gross!

Recently the local KFC shops in my area underwent MUCH needed renovations. I was excited to see the new designs and was relieved that the gross carpeting in both stores would now be gone.

Boy was I disappointed.

We visited the store on W. 117th and Franklin in Lakewood first because it was closer. It basically looks like they gutted the interior and slapped up some bright yellow and red paint.

The bathrooms (which were probably in the worst shape of the entire restaurant) weren't even touched. Same fixtures, not even painted. Still just one commode.

But again, I'm just grateful that nasty, dirty carpeting is gone and they've replaced the broken tables.

The store at W. 165th and Kamms Corners was actually worse. Same condition overall - the ceiling in one place shows that there is some sort of leak, possibly from the roof that has not been fixed. Every table in the place was dirty. The floors were sticky. We attempted to put our 8 month old in one of the high chairs and it was caked with dirt. We wound up taking turns holding him on our lap while we ate.

I wasn't even sure what to even say to the manager. The place was gross. But how do you tell someone their store is a pigsty without offending them?

I would hope that after making the decision to revamp the stores that it would have been more than just minor cosmetic. I also would hope that the staff would take pride in their new space and work to keep it clean. I guess not.

I don't expect much from Church's Chicken or Popeye's, but I am disappointed to say that as much as I PREFER your chicken and sides to theirs, I would feel MORE comfortable eating in their shops after these visits.

I hope that you will address this with your sites. I don't know if anyone else was as put off by the underwhelming changes, but I was and I just wanted to make you aware of it.

Nobody has brought up the obvious, so I'm going to. If the store was
that nasty, why did you eat there? It's one thing to find it
disgusting, leave, and then write your letter. But how bad could it
really have been if you chose to sit down and have a meal? And how do
you expect KFC management to take you seriously when you've done so?

Another thing to consider: if the "public" areas are really
as bad as you describe, imagine what the kitchen must be like!

Excellent letter. I dont think that you should be worried about
offending the manager. It is the manager's job to keep the place in
order, and they are clearly not doing the job. Make them aware of
that its noticeable!

Your letter reminds me of Walmart's renovations a couple of years ago.
They redid most of the store, creating very hazardous conditions for
the customers in the process, and when they were done, it was still
the same old Walmart. If I hadn't actually seen the renovations in
progress, I would have never know anything was done.

Even if KFC straightens out those stores, if they're not maintained,
things will go downhill very fast. It sounds like the managers and
staff aren't all that interested in keeping a nice place.

MA L,
Good insight and good decision to share it with corporate.
If you have a moment I might suggest that you forward a copy of your
letter to the attention of the General Manager at the particular
stores mentioned.
The reason for this is so that person can address what are called
"housekeeping" issues before they impact another customer.
The other issues such as color and wall treatment are best shared with
corporate where those decisions are made.
You could be right on the roof leak or it could also be condensate
from an HVAC which is a relatively easy fix.
Stop back and let us know if you hear back.
BillR.
