This letter is spot on. The problem is just what the poster a few posts back stated; every other customer would be screaming about waiting. It seems like on Mother's day they could take orders by phone or post the wait time on a sign outside. Anyone who complained could then legally be shot.

KFC is one of the places responsible for me becoming vegetarian!
After eating BLEEDING CHICKEN from their place and having the runs for a couple of days... I decided I no longer wanted to eat meat anymore. I've been vegetarian for about 5 years now. KFC is disgusting.

It takes 25 minutes to cook chicken and that does not include breading time. And it has to be breaded right before it goes into the fryer or it dries out. When I worked at KFC and we would run out of chicken during a rush, customers would always be *irate* when we told them there would be a 25 min wait.
They do keep it warm before it's sold - everything is kept in a heated cabinet under a spotlight. There's no reason it should be cold, unless it's been sitting there a good long while. The chicken is supposed to be good to sell for an hour and a half after it's made - but if they'd cooked a lot and then it was quieter than expected, it's very likely the chicken was kept under the heatlamp for longer than that. This obviously is bad practice and leads to dry and slightly lukewarm chicken.

You know what's funny? I'm really, really picky about my food...I almost never eat meat of any kind cold because "it smells different". Yeah, I know it's weird. I can't help it.
But I *love* KFC cold. Not ice cold, but just like..room temperature. Usually friend food is pretty gross as it cools down, but KFC has that just right kinda breading that makes you forget the temperature and enjoy the 11 herbs and spices!

Touchy situation.
Because chicken takes 10 minutes to cook safely, no one would want to wait 10 minutes in a drive-thru lane for their chicken to be prepared. Especially on a day when there are going to be a lot of people, that would probably lead to a lot more unsatisfied customers than satisfied customers, right?
Perhaps next time you write, you might suggest they use a warming tool to keep the chicken warm and good until it is purchased? That way they could adequately prepare for their rush, without serving cold food.
I'm sorry that you had a disappointing Mother's Day experience, and I hope KFC will have a satisfactory answer for you!

Oops didn't mean to hit "send" so soon. It's Friday!
Agreed, the chicken shouldn't be cold (or old), but they have to have food made up in advance -- otherwise, KFC would have a lot of angry customers given the length of time it would take to fill orders.
But I agree with the others in that your letter was good -- you were polite, didn't ask for compensation, etc.

Having food prepared ahead of time (especially something like fried chicken, which takes a while) is the ESSENCE of "fast food."

Wow. I'm vegetarian, but even I know how greasy and unpalatable cold fried chicken must be!
By the way, this is a good letter. I like that you stated your experience in a forthright manner without resorting to exaggeration and vague "he/she was RUDE!" comments. I also like that you didn't ask for freebies, though I do, in this case, hope you get some.
I would have to agree with cappella (again? - what is going on, here?), though that you probably could have rectified the situation by talking to a manager. Or even asking the counter person for a fresher order. Either way, I hope you hear back.

I had a similar experience. I called the manager and provided my receipt for proof. The manager replaced my entire meal at no charge. If you have your receipt and a valid complaint they will usually replace your meal.

I agree that the food should not be cooked too far ahead. It is wasteful, and makes for not-good-tasting chicken. Frankly, I can't stand KFC, but I think the poster should have gotten hot, fresh chicken.
And yes, I like cold fried chicken too. Brings back childhood memories. Just not KFC.

I think I agree with you, but...
Question: Was this a take-out order? Something in your wording suggests to me that it was.
Question: If so, did you discover it was cold before you left the KFC? Or when you got home?
Question: If it was a take-out order, how many minutes passed between them handing you your order and you actually taking a bite?
Question: If it was an eat-in order or you checked before leaving, what did the manager say when you asked for a fresh (hot) order?
Question: When you say "It seemed like it has been sitting there a while," do you mean that you know it had? Or just assumed?
Now, personally, I think KFC tastes a whole lot better cold than hot. But that's my own personal taste.

I hope the company takes your advice and does something about the length of time they allow the chicken to sit before throwing it away. You truly did deserve to get piping hot chicken and they did not deliver.
Good for you for not asking for compensation and kudos to you for mentioning what was right with the meal.
I hope you hear back from KFC.

'I would not have minded waiting if it meant I would have received hot chicken.'
Oh yes you would! Your complaint letter would then be about the length of time you had to wait to get the 'hot' chicken. It's a case of 'damned if you do and damned if you don't.'

I understand it's supposed to be hot but all you had to do was throw it in the over for awhile.
