"Reciept" Policy- STORE Reciept only??

I bought a bathing suit at the Lane Bryant Outlet in Charleston, SC. With tags still attached, I decided to return it for another size. No refund, no credit. Simple EVEN EXCHANGE. Like for like. Go to the store today, only to find the suit is now on sale...still not a problem to me, as it was to be a like for like transaction. There are none of the size I need in stock, so I chose the same suit in a different color instead. I was promptly informed that they couldn't do that, because I didn't have the "STORE" issued receipt, which was put through the wash and destroyed. I had a copy on my phone of the total transaction, including details, from my credit card company, but they refused the return because I did not have the "STORE" receipt that printed out from the register. I can understand if I were looking for cash back, or a credit issued, which I was not, but to not be willing to accept the Credit Card receipt makes no sense.
Lane Bryant needs to take a tighter look at it's "receipt" policy. I'm now stuck with a $75 bathing suit I can do nothing with, or forced to accept a refund of about 2/3 of that. All over what should have been a simple exchange. As a long term customer, I'm very disappointed in this policy.

I ALWAYS make sure stuff fits before I leave the store unless it is someplace like WalMart that I know has a super easy return policy. There are lots of things that my mom or sister might buy for me without me being there to try it on but a swimsuit is definatly not one of them. Then again I would never pay $75 for a swimsuit.

OK, I don't know about you, but I make SURE it's a suit that will fit and I like before I walk out of the store.
Even if the store's policy isn't ridiculously restrictive over receipts, it's usually as much so, or worse, because of the fact that it's swimwear or intimate apparel.
I can't really see any way that LB needs to change their policy. Customers just need to be more cognizant of their receipts if they even THINK they might return an item.

Did you use a Lane Bryant store card, or a MasterCard/Visa?
In my experience, a store card often breaks down my purchases into "housewares" or "lingerie". My MasterCard/Visa, however, just would just show "Lane Bryant Outlet, Charleston SC".
It's not their fault that you washed your receipt before making sure the suit fit. You might have accepted the generous 2/3 and gotten the suit that would fit. (After you made sure of the size, of course.)

And frankly I too am a bit *barf* over the idea of stores taking back bathing suits. Used suits cannot be resold. Yes you still had the tag on it but once it leaves the store it is considered "used".
Therefore stores only did returns for actual defects not "i changed my mind" issues

I surprised (and a little grossed out) that they would even consider an exchange of a bathing suit with or without a receipt. Most stores have no return/exchange on bathing suits for hygiene purposes.
