Burgandy the New Purple

Write a Letter to this Company

Today I purchased a box of the L'Oreal Paris Feria Multifaceted Shimmering Color M32 Violet Soft Black Midnight Star. I loved the color on the box and it showed that it would color even the darkest natural color. I have medium to dark brown hair with gray at my temples. I have been coloring my hair at home since I was a teen, I am now 46, so I am pretty good at it. I have yet to have a color that didn't turn out as shown on the box. I wanted a purple black...I got burgandy brown. Not a bad color. I like it. Well I would since this USED to be the color I always used before. But I didn't pay for Burgandy Brown. I paid for a purple/violet black color. I followed the instructions as I normally do. I used the conditioner as your suppose to. I did notice after the application and before the rinse that the color was more Burgandy then I thought it should be. But since I haven't used this color before, I didn't know what to expect.

I have thrown away the box and the bottles - did that before I rinsed and wasn't about go dumpster digging to get them out to look at the lot number on the box. So I am at a loss to explain or understand why the color on the box did not end up on my hair. The box was sealed, so I don't think there was any tampering at the store. I will admit that I did not look at the color on the bottle before I added it to the activating solution. I never do. I trust that the color on the box is the color I will get.

There is really nothing that can be done to fix it. What's done is done. The color will fade in a few weeks and I will try again. I color my hair about every 8 weeks or so. I will make sure that when I buy the next box I will check to be sure that the bottle in the box is the correct one for the color. And of course I will keep the box until after my hair is dried...just in case. I just wanted L'Oreal to be aware that the color that I ended up with was not the color that was shown on the box. I did notice on your website that several people were commenting on the same thing under your reviews section. It seems that I am not the only person who has had issues with the color not being correct. It seems that there are others out there who expected Purple Black and got Burgandy Brown.

LOL, when I saw the title of this, I wondered if it was going to be to
a car manufacturer. I have a burgundy car, burgundy is the color I
wanted, but so many people love to call it "purple". Purple and
burgundy are definitely not the same color. My registration says my
car is red.

Burgundy is a red that falls towards the more purple end of the
spectrum, but it sounds to me you wanted a more plum or bluish purple?
That's what I think of when you say purple/black. I used to dye my
hair blue-black years ago. Now I go with burgundy, as my natural color
is more of an auburn anyway.

Of course your hair isn't going to be identical to what the box
shows.

I mean sure they show examples of how it may look if applied to light,
medium, and dark hair but .... every person has different hair.

And a different environment. Sometimes just the water you use can
affect your hair color. Bromide-filtered water for example... that
turns dyed-blond hair greenish. Quite interesting really.

Also if you are dying on top of previous dye-jobs you may have unusual
results. I once did starlit-blond and then red within a few days. It
came out bright orange. kinda the classic 'ginger' that redheads
hate.

My advice to you... go to a salon. Or consider letting your natural
color grow out for a bit before you dye again. Perhaps your hair just
needs a break?

It may help make future dyes look more like what you expect

Here let me claify a few things. I did not do a strand test. Why?
Would it have made a difference? To me, not really. I do like the
color. Its the same color I used to get in Germany (that I cant find
here), so its not a big deal. I now know how to get it again. I am
very dispointed in the fact that I wanted Black w/ Violet overtones.
Considering that is what is advertised on the box (with any hair color
- shown was a blonde, a dark blonde and a darkbrown - and all would
get the same result as shown on the color indicator on the box) should
be what you end up with...with a minor or slight shade variance I can
deal with. But Dark Brown is not Black no matter how many strand
tests you do or how often you color. Black should cover up dark brown
hair. Period. Also red/burgunday is not Violet/Purple. Period. I
was looking for a change - somewhat dramatic - and I really didnt get
it. I think that you should get what you pay for and what is
advertised. I have been looking at a few different websites that
discuss this very color (google the color in my letter) and you will
see what I mean. An over whelming amount of women did not get the
results they were expecting. Some were pleased...some where not. I
dont know who or who did not do a strand test. Again, It would not
have mattered to me. I really wouldnt have been able to make a clear
determintion on if I liked it or not based on one strand.

I am not "unhappy" with my color - again, its something I used to get.
I would have been more happy to get what I was expecting. I will
keep trying to see if I can get the color I am looking for...Thanks to
all who have posted and read and commeted.

You say that you followed the directions, did you do a strand test
before doing your entire head?
