Los Angeles Times Does Not Honor Federal Do Not Call Registry

Posted Thu August 9, 2012 12:00 pm, by . written to Los Angeles Times

Write a Letter to this Company

My telephone number is (and has been for years) listed on the National Do Not Call Registry, but they still called me on August 9, 2012. I have NO previous business relationship with this company, ever. They claim they are conducting a "survey" but I know that's not true, they are trying to sell subscriptions to their newspaper. I told the woman my number was on the National Do Not Call List, and asked her to to please remove me from their call list, we'll see if they call me again, if so, I'll get more information and file a formal complaint with the FTC.

I suggest the LA Times do the following:

1. Do not preface sales calls by saying you're conducting a survey when your true intent is to sell subscriptions.

2. Scrub your database of telephone numbers and remove ALL numbers that are listed in the National Do Not Call Registry. Visit https://telemarketing.donotcall.gov/ for more information on what your responsibilities are.

3. Maintain your own internal Do Not Call list and honor it.

With Congressional primaries and possibly state/county races in
primaries, the LA Times may have been conducting a POLITICAL survey.

Those are allowed under the rules of the Do Not Call list.

There is a company that promises to lower your credit card rates via
an automated recording ("This is your final chance!" is stated every
single time they call you). They also do not honor the Do Not Call
registry.

If you press "3" to opt out of future calls, they still call you.

They are actually identity thieves as I found a website with many,
many pages of comments from people who've been scammed by them...or
who are totally irritated that the thieves won't stop calling them.

I have an air horn next to my phone for the next time they call me. I
plan to deafen the thief on the other end of the line if I can....
