The Cost of Using Lowe's Paint

I have been having ongoing remodeling done on my home. In two separate remodeling instances performed by two separate contractors I have had horrible experiences with your paint department. This particular Lowe's is located at 2710 Alkay Drive, Shreveport, LA 71118.

In the first instance, I had two gallons of $35 paint (a designer color-Valspar) mixed. Both were supposed to be a tan/beige color. The contractors picked up the paint after I had it mixed at the store and painted the entire room with the paint. I was not at home during this procedure. When I came home the room was an off-white pink. Seems the Lowe's paint department had let red paint drip into both gallons. It was horrible. The contractors just assumed it was the color I wanted since I left the paint to chip to be mixed). I had to either re-pay the contractors to repaint in the correct color in the room or re-paint the room myself. I ended up repainting everything myself because I did not wish to pay the contractor another $430 to re-paint the room. This experience cost me almost $500 total for Lowe's errors. $70 plus tax for new paint and $430 labor for my contractors.

The next incident is taking place right now. I am having a pool remodel done. The contractors purchased Valspar concrete deck paint from the same Lowe's store unknowingly to me. Not only was the color off on all 3 gallons but something went wrong with the chemical mix on the deck paint. The paint never dried. Three days later it rained and now I have a HUGE mess on the deck of my pool. Puddles of paint are all over the deck where the paint washed off of the concrete. It is also running down the sides of my pool into the empty pool. (We had it drained in order to re-marcite). The paint is all over the pool tile, the new decorative edging around pool and I'm seeing a VERY expensive repair. My pool contractors are LIVID and have been trying to work with Lowe's here. I am outraged because of the mess I have to my surrounding landscaping and natural brick around the pool where the paint has seeped into the brick and mortar. I also fear that my landscaping will die off due to the chemicals in the watered down paint. The deck was completely dry when the contractors painted. They acid washed everything a few days before and it was sunny and dry when they painted. There is no reason that last batch of paint should not have dried other then a problem during the mix of the paint. I intend to contact Valspar to see what may have caused this. It also gives a very bad name to their paint when your store is screwing up the colors and chemical balance of the paint so badly.

I would like reimbursement for all of the paint and labor. I would also like Lowe's to take care of the surrounding brick and landscape problems due to the watered down paint or to reimburse my contractors for clean-up. I also wish for any problems with the pool tile to be addressed once the paint settles into the grout of the tile in the pool.

I will wait to hear from you before deciding on any legal actions. I also have digital photos available of before and after the paint incident if you wish to see them.

I will allow 7 business days to hear from someone at your company before taking further action.

You seem to have some valid complaints, but they get lost among the
invalid complaints. For example, you aren't owed the money you paid
the contracts to paint the room. If you had hired them to paint the
room a second time (instead of painting it yourself), then you could
ask/demand to be reimbursed for ONE of those painting sessions.

But I have to ask, did you speak with any manager at the store about
your concerns?

I'm confused here. You say you repainted the room yourself but you
are asking for $430 for the labor? That doesn't wash. BTW, there is
always a small amount of red in beige when it's mixed. I used to mix
shoe dye. This is why it's always best to do a small test area first.
I just recently repainted my dining room. When I painted it 7 years
ago, I thought the color I picked was a dusty rose. It turned out to
be Pepto Bismal Pink. We had to keep it that way as we were getting
ready for the holidays. It took me 7 years to get my husband to
repaint.
