Rewarding Trip to Lowe's

It's not often that a ray of light shines into the darkened recesses of home improvement stores however Don M. was able to find one recently.

I picked up some 3/4" 4x8 sanded subfloor last night at store #1759. I needed 13 pieces for a building I am constructing.

Since the carts won't handle that much, I decided to shop in two passes. Out in the parking lot, I started loading the first set onto my truck. I wanted to keep the edges intact, and the sheets are a bit unwieldy. I was methodically proceeding, and employee Rob stopped clearing carts from the lot and came over to offer help. I happily accepted, and I noticed he used the same care I had been in getting them transferred. He was very nice, and said he was glad to help.

I hadn't told Rob I had a second trip, and when I returned to the truck, I did note Rob was all the way on the other side of the parking lot. I wasn't expecting help, and I proceeded to start loading. Rob worked his way in my direction rather quickly, because I had only loaded a few sheets when he again offered his help. When we were done, he asked what I was building. The conversation turned to the fact that Rob had his own contracting business and had 9 years of building experience. He wasn't authoritative at all; he showed an interest in what/how I was doing the job, and only when I asked did he tell me how he did things or offer advice. I found his manner to be very professional.

In the course of the conversation, we shared several techniques, and I learned quite a bit. I was very impressed to find such an resource at 9:30 at night. Thanks Rob!

My favorite part of this wonderful letter is that Rob took the same
care handling the material as he saw you doing. He is obviously
someone who not only enjoys his job but enjoys interacting with the
customers, as well. He's a gem of an employee, and I hope he gets the
recognition from the company that he deserves.

Terrific letter, Don!

Don M.,
Great letter!!!
I might suggest that you send a copy to the store general manager
asking that Rob get a copy of it and that one be placed in Rob's
personnel jacket.
Again, Great letter.
Bill

Awesome letter. It's so nice to find someone who is willing to go out
of their way to provide service.

I said this in another letter, but so often we are willing to complain
(myself included) but not so quick to compliment. Your letter just
reminded me that I should be on the lookout for places where a
compliment is warranted.

Thanks!

Great letter! I agree, they are wonderful there. We had been back and
forth while tiling this past month and a man had offered his help
while my children and I were designing the layout of the tiles. He
even gave us a few spacers in a tiny size rather than making us buy
the whole bag which we didn't need. I thought that was wonderful for
him to do.

When service is great like you describe in your letter, they ensure
you will be back. I know we will be. I hope they tell Rob what a
great job he did too.
