It's not often that a ray of light shines into the darkened recesses of home improvement stores however Don M. was able to find one recently.
I picked up some 3/4" 4x8 sanded subfloor last night at store #1759. I needed 13 pieces for a building I am constructing.
Since the carts won't handle that much, I decided to shop in two passes. Out in the parking lot, I started loading the first set onto my truck. I wanted to keep the edges intact, and the sheets are a bit unwieldy. I was methodically proceeding, and employee Rob stopped clearing carts from the lot and came over to offer help. I happily accepted, and I noticed he used the same care I had been in getting them transferred. He was very nice, and said he was glad to help.
I hadn't told Rob I had a second trip, and when I returned to the truck, I did note Rob was all the way on the other side of the parking lot. I wasn't expecting help, and I proceeded to start loading. Rob worked his way in my direction rather quickly, because I had only loaded a few sheets when he again offered his help. When we were done, he asked what I was building. The conversation turned to the fact that Rob had his own contracting business and had 9 years of building experience. He wasn't authoritative at all; he showed an interest in what/how I was doing the job, and only when I asked did he tell me how he did things or offer advice. I found his manner to be very professional.
In the course of the conversation, we shared several techniques, and I learned quite a bit. I was very impressed to find such an resource at 9:30 at night. Thanks Rob!
