MayTag Responds to an e-mail letter

Posted Thu March 1, 2007 12:00 pm, by Jo Ann G. written to Maytag Corporation

I wrote a letter to Maytag through Planet Feedback concerning burned-out parts on my
two-year-old range. Within a few hours, I
received a telephone call from a Maytag representative offering to reimburse me for one of the parts in question upon receipt of a paid invoice for the replacement part. I was
very pleased with the positive and rapid response to my concerns. It has restored my
confidence in purchasing Maytag brand products.

How did you do that? I have been calling, writing, & emaling Maytag
for months. They finally called (after I contacted the bbb) saying
that someone would be sent out to fix my "new" dishwasher that has
been a lemon from the start. That was a week ago and I haven't been
able to reach the person that called since.Duh!

Jo Ann,

Thank you for this update.

You have, of course, found the same thing that many consumer magazines
report, Maytag is one of the leaders in home consumer appliances.

Enjoy the range.

I don't want to rain on your parade, I really don't, but I wouldn't
let this experience give you a false sense of security about Maytag
products. Maybe the quick response and resolution you received are
signs that the company is turning itself around, which would be
wonderful, but I have three Maytag appliances and am extremely
disappointed in all of them. As a matter of fact, I just came from
Sears where I was looking for a new washing machine, and after
becoming friendly with the saleslady, she agreed that Maytag products
are definitely not what they used to be and to avoid them at all
costs.

This isn't to say that it's impossible for Maytag to regain the fine
reputation it once enjoyed. Now that the company is owned by
Whirlpool, and it's service department has merged with Sears (so I'm
told), maybe these companies can come together and produce a better
quality, long-lasting product that will be more like our "mother's
Maytag".

I just saw a spot on the news about Maytag holding auditions for the
new Maytag Repairman. If they want my opinion (and I'm sure they
don't), I think choosing a woman could be the new beginning the
company is looking for. I never understood why household appliances
are (probably) designed by men, but it does explain why so many of
them are not user friendly. No offense, guys. It's just a fact of
life.
