Unhonored rebate

In February of 2006, I purchased a Maytag washing machine that was eligible for a $200 rebate. That was a huge factor in my purchase. Within a few days I submitted the rebate to Maytag Corp. in Young America, MN. I still have the documentation supporting my rebate and purchase. I waited a significant amount of time and finally called the rebate center. I was told that I would be contacted regarding my rebate. Again, I called after hearing nothing. This time I needed to resubmit the information. Again, the information was resubmitted. I called back and again was told that research needed to be done on your end. I waited a significant amount of time and recently called back again to hear this response: "I'm sorry, there is nothing we can do as there aren't records that go back that far." How convenient that you are no longer responsible for my rebate since you don't keep records. If I owed you for the price of the washer but insisted I don't keep financial information and refused to pay, would that be acceptable to you?

I would appreciate if you could please give me the promised rebate of $200 as I fulfilled my obligations and purchased the machine in good faith.

Don

You failed to consider how many times I contacted them in the mean
time.

and now this is a few and a half years later. I'm not surprised at
all the records are gone. This sounds like the understatement of all
time: "I waited a significant amount of time"

To answer your question, if you owed them money, that record would
never go away. It is unreasonable though, to expect the same of a
rebate application.
