Defective fridge

We bought an expensive Maytag Plus refrigerator in September 2001. Last week, after only 6 1/2 years the compressor died and so did the fridge. I have spoken with MANY people and none have ever heard of a refrigerator dying in that short amount of time. I don't know anyone who has replaced a fridge in less then 10 years. And it cannot be wear and tear as my husband and I live alone.

You are guilty of fraudulent advertising. I believed in your company because their ads trumpet their reliability!! Who hasn't heard of the Maytag repairman??? It's a big fat lie!

You cannot replace the fridge because we had to store our groceries in our backyard when yours broke down with no hope of repair (just $600 for a new compressor). An immediate purchase was necessary with money we could not afford to spend as I have been unemployed for the last year. I will only be satisfied if you refund to me what I would have had to pay to replace the compressor. You should be ashamed to sell such shoddy merchandise.

Shoddy? 6 1/2 problem free years and you accuse them of selling
shoddy merchandise. That's just unreal. Nothing lasts forever,
especially appliances.

These products are made by humans, so they all will cease operation at
some point. If every unit was guaranteed to last 50 years, the cost
every person pays would be much higher. In fact the warranty is much
shorter, so we can predict some failures will occur in the time range
your experienced.

Thus, some percentage of units will fail within 5 years, some within
10 years, 15, and so on.

If 60% last 20 years without failing, that means 40% failed sometime
earlier. Maybe 5% failed in the first 5 years, 15% in the first 10
years, 25% in the first 15 years and 40% by the time 20 years passed.

Sadly, you drew the short straw with this product. If they all
failed in 6-1/2 years, you might be justified in calling this a shoddy
product. Do you have data that shows this is a widespread problem?

but no company makes a product that doesn't fail sooner or later. But
you haven't even given them a chance to do anything about it (not that
they had an obligation to).
6.5 years isn't so bad for an appliance like this.
