Refrigerator Compressor

In November of 2006, I purchased a Maytag Refrigerator (Model #MTB1504ARS). Several weeks ago I noticed a knocking/tapping sound when the refrigerator shut off. Yesterday I spoke with a refrigerator repairman who said it was the compressor and to replace it would be very expensive. He recommended I get a new refrigerator.

I was going to calll Maytag Customer Service, but decided to read on-line reviews of Maytag first. Many customers with my problem had contacted Maytag and had a miserable experience - both in customer service and financially.

I've decided not to waste my time dealing with Maytag Customer Service and to post on Planet Feedback instead.

This refrigerator is only five and a half years old. There is absolutely no reason that the compressor should go out. It's been properly cared for. I would like Maytage to install a new compressor at no cost to me. Either for parts or labor.

If Maytag doesn't respond in a positive manner, I will never, ever buy another Maytag product. Actually, I probably won't anyway, if what happened to me and others is indicitive of their product and service.

So did you read the good reviews, and what about the warranty. It's
good to note that when people don't get their way they always write a
bad review. See other posts.you didn't have any experience with their
customer service and you still wrote a bad review.....maybe you should
call them anyways and maybe stop feeding into others negativity. Go
forth and have your own experiences

So you haven't even gotten an estimate yet... Nor have you actually
said if you even have a warranty.

But they're suppose to hop-to and service you immediately...

Good luck. My last refrigerator (yep, it was a Maytag too!) did the
exact same thing after less than 7 years. Top of the line model
nonetheless. No extended warranty = no help from Maytag.

I now have a Whirlpool. Don't like it much but it was cheap. And
according to our local repair guy, there's no use in buying the more
expensive brands & units anymore - they're all junk & will break down
in only a few years. Why waste your money? Just buy the cheapest unit
that can meet your needs...

So the fridge is over 5 years old, and you say you read online about
the "miserable experience" that customers have, and now demand they
fix it or your buying something other than a maytag? Even after the
repair man said it wouldnt be worth fixing?

Why would they fix something that would cost more than a new fridge?

Donna M

Did you get an extended warranty?

Be sure to regularly (once or twice a year, perhaps) vacuum the
compressor coils on the back of the fridge, as well as the vent at the
bottom front of the machine.

Unless you have an extended warranty I doubt Maytag (or any other
manufacturer) will do anything for you on a 5 1/2 yr old appliance.

Especially when the customer is already cutting ties with them. by Steve OH (IO) Thu July 12, 2012 @ 1:48 PM
