DISHWASHER
ALMOST 1YEAR AGO I PURCHASED A NEW DISHWASHER MODEL# MDB8600AWQ SERIAL# 26317610GG. I THOUGHT HOW WONDERFUL TO HAVE 3 ROWS OF SHELVES FOR DISHES. HERE IS MY COMPLAINTS. THE WAY IT IS DESIGNED MAKES IT VERY HARD TO FIT DISHES INSIDE SO THEY FIT NORMAL. THE SILVERWARE HOLDER SITS INSIDE FUNNY BECAUSE OF THE RACK ADJUSTER ON THE SIDES. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE RACK ADJUSTER ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE A FEW WEEKS AGO AND NOW THE LEFT SIDE BROKE. THE WHEELS SEEM TO BE CHEAPLY MADE AND THEY HAVE BOTH BROKE. I AM STILL WAITING FOR MY OTHER PART(TINE FOLD) IT HAS BEEN ON BACK ORDER NOW FOR ALMOST 2 MONTHS. LET ME TELL YOU, FOR THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT I PAID FOR THIS DISHWASHER....IT WAS A BIG MISTAKE. 95% OF THE TIME MY DISHES COME OUT STILL DIRTY AND I HAVE TO HAND WASH ALL OF THEM AGAIN. I AM WONDERING IF THIS HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT IT HAS THE 3 LEVELS? IF I COULD HAVE TEST DROVE THIS MACHINE FOR 1 MONTH BEFORE SAYING "YES" TO IT. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN SENT BACK AND A NEW ONE BOUGHT.
TAKE MY LEMON DISHWASHER AND REPLACE IT WITH ONE THAT WORKS THE WAY IT SHOULD WORK.

Ours was covered under warranty. In that time of the standard warrany and the 'free' one year extended that Maytag gave us due to the forever lead time on parts. The roller on the leftside front busted off every six months. and it took six weeks to get a complete rack. Rollers not available from Maytag! Well the last one the repair guy left the old rack and now i'm out of rollers to put in. This thing is a lemon and with the poor design, lack of parts and continual failure of the same part.
I will not chance a Maytag again.

Amen. I wish I hadn't bought mine, either, for the same reasons, and more. I hate it. I should have bought the other one I was considering (a Whirlpool) that was cheaper and I knew worked very well because I had one like it in a different house. I hate the way the racks are set up and it is hard to get things in them. And clean? well, I am back to handwashing my dishes because the thing is so bad. we are remodeling our kitchen next year and believe me, the Maytag dishwasher will not be left in there!

Dear Bobbi S.(I Wish I Could Have Test Drove My Maytag Dishwasher)
I concur with your comment about this dishwasher that bears the Maytag name. I too own the three rack dishwasher model MDB8600AWQ, serial #12891256AR. I paid $550 dollars for a dishwasher that doesn't clean the dishes. Never mind the fact that I had to replace the entire switch panel because the door latch broke - the new one was redesigned, which indicates it was a problem, the pump assembly, the lower filter assembly, some of the tines on the rack broke off, and now a cheap seal on the bottom of the door fell apart! But as I mentioned earlier, the dishes come out dirty. I have turned up the water temperature to a dangerous 150°, tried all different powder and gel detergents, and basically wash the dishes before I load them in the dishwasher; yet they still come out dirty! I think it's a problem where the pump isn't big enough to run four wash arms. There's even times when all of the soap won't wash out of the dispenser! How pathetic is that? I even snaked out the sewer piping by the sink and installed an airgap to prevent any possibility of backwash.
I bought a Maytag to replace the dishwasher that came with the house because of my satisfication with their products...IN THE PAST. I also own a Maytag refrigerator and Gemini range. One of the shelf supports broke out of the side of the refrigerator and it can't be fixed. The two ovens on the range didn't work; eventhough it was brand new. The ovens were fine once the computer board was replaced under warranty.
The Maytag I had in a previous home had a fan in it that would go on to help dry the dishes. Worked great, but this one doesn't have it. Even with heated dry turned on, some of the dishes, especially plastic ones, have to be dried by hand. It also has a plastic tub, that stains! I was told the plastic tub was the way to go because no one is using steel anymore; yet the high end machinesof today have stainless steel tubs!
Now that Whirlpool bought Maytag out, maybe things will change; but as of now, I could not recommend anything with the Maytag name on it to anybody. I have written an e-mail to Maytag before and never received an acknowledgement, much less a response. I will copy them on this letter so they have it and perhaps give me something that works.
If there is anything deserving of a class-action lawsuit, it's this dishwasher. The Maytag repairman would never be lonely here, but probably on his last dying breath from trying to fix this junk. Wayne S.

As others have pointed out, you should consider dropping the caps. It is considered poor communication.
There are some other obvious errors within your letter that others have failed to point out. Hopefully doing so will help you with your problems...
First, if you actually purchased an 8600 series dishwasher, you did not purchase a three-rack system. 8600s are stainless interiors and do not have three racks, only two. If you have purchased a triple rack system, it would have to be a 9600 series. I'd suggest double-checking your facts so help can be given correctly.
Second, the silverware holder in no way should set around the adjustments to the sides of the first and second rack of a 9600. The holder is a basket that separates into two separate divisions. This is designed to free up additional space when you have less silverware to clean. Keep the two parts attached and place it towards the front center of the second rack if you need the silverware space. Separate the halves, only placing one half hanging off of the front of the middle center of the second rack (again, assuming this is a 9600 model). The silverware should set handle first within this basket, within the separate holes on the top of the basket. This, then, keeps the silverware separate to get better cleaning accomplished. At NO TIME is there any reason why any portion of this basket should interfere with the adjustments to the side of the two top racks. If they are, you are loading it wrong.
Loading the dishwasher correctly can help relieve some of your problem, as part of the cleaning is getting good water pressure to each item on each rack. Each rack has it's own dedicated wash arm and there is an additional arm on the top center of the cabinet. This model should not require you to "pre-wash". There is a good food grinder that should pulverize any food particles, flushing them out through your disposal system. It's also has a good cal-rod for drying, or you have the option to air dry. If you have soft water, that will also help. Drying aids, such as Jet Dry, can also help with removing water spots.
If any of these things are not happening and you are fairly certain you are loading the dishwasher correctly (as well as possible), you may want to contact the retailer you purchased it though. If you were this concerned about the product running correctly, you may have purchased an extended service agreement. Again, assuming the retailer is good about backing their agreements, you may fall into having it serviced free beyond the first year or even replaced at no cost.
On a side note, Maytag really is a good brand in dishwashers. They have some of the very best designs. If you were fortunate to have an 8600 series, GOOD FOR YOU! It is one of the best models on the market and one of the better values for a stainless steal tub.
Best of Luck!

I just finished 4 months of repairs/issues with my Kenmore dishwasher (may it RIP) Two of the repairmen who came both said the same thing about Maytag- they seem to need constant repairs.
They also mentioned Bosch dishwashers (which cost anywhere from 800-1500) have been having numerous problems. The builder of the second phase of our development stopped offering the Bosch appliance package because of so many complaints. So if spending an obscene amount of money STILL doesn't buy quality & longevity- what are we supposed to do?

I tried test-driving my washing machine before I bought it. I accidentally drove it right into an electric pole. You should've seen the fury in the Maytag salesman's eyes when he saw the damage. From his commercials, I knew that he was terrifically bored most of the time, but I didn't know he was also viciously angry and prone to fits of violence.
By the way, ALL CAPS letters make me viciously angry and prone to fits of violence. Please turn off your CAPS LOCK key. God knows I can't afford to get any more slightly crazed than I already am.

My parents just bought a brand new dishwasher, made by another manufacturer. The man that came to install the dishwasher worked for the store that sold it, which sold other brands of appliances, including Maytag.
While he was doing the installation work, he and my father did the "guy talk," thing, and discussed other brands of dishwashers Dad had considered, among them a Maytag. The installation guy told my dad that it was a good decision not to buy the Maytag, because if they had, he would have "had to visit so much, you'd start to think I lived here." Not a ringing endorsement, right?
I don't want to start a political flamewar, but the installation guy told my dad that Maytag's drop in quality coincided with their decision to outsource the bulk of their factories to Mexico. Apparently they are cutting costs, and in the process cutting corners.
BTW, easy on the caps lock, it comes across online as shouting and makes your letter tough to read.

I wish I could have test driven ALL of my Maytag appliances instead of placing my trust and confidence in a company that has abandoned the quality and design worthy of it's formerly well-known reputation.
My refrigerator is so poorly designed that I secretly pray every day for it to break so I can buy a new one. The oven in the stove stopped working properly as soon as the warranty expired. The washing machine has been repaired three times for the same thing, (at least I have an extended warranty so the repairs did not cost me anything).
I haven't said this in awhile, but in light of your letter, it's worth repeating. If I won a truckload of Maytag appliances on The Price is Right, I'd forfeit the prize.

Gee, does Maytag also make your computer keyboard with the broken CAPS LOCK in it?
PS, the new Maytag dishwashers don't clean as well as the older ones. Trust me - I upgraded from an older Maytag to a new much higher model. I am very dissapointed.
