Neptune Washer MAH4000AWW Repair

I have a Neptune Washer Model MAH4000AWW, and I have had at least two repairs done on this washer by a Maytag repairman. The last repair was done in March of 2005, and the repairman told me that with all the repairs that I have had replaced, that I pretty much had a new washer. Well, its been about a year and a half, and I am experiencing the same problems (no high speed spin, and door locks). I called the Maytag service line, and they tell me that the repair will cost me over $500. The problem is the same thing that they fixed last March, but they will not back up their service or parts to take care of the problem for me. I will never buy a Maytag product again, because they do not back up their product with good service, and they are not dependable.

I would like Maytag to repair my Neptune washer or give me a new washer at no cost, because I have had nothing but troubles with this one.

I had the same problem all it is is the switches are bad the door lock
high speed spin is the bad part. if they are repairing other things
they are lying to you. my washer is doing the sdame thing i had the
switch replaved 3 years ago and now i did it myself this week again.
but be careful my door has locked and wont open so not sure what the
problem is. ill never buy a maytag again im going to look at an LG

My neptune washer MAH4000AMC is out and the customer rep at maytag
says she can send out a repairman. I mentioned the fact that their are
dozens of blogs and a class action lawsuit in re; to this model. And
she says "yes there was a class action lawsuit", and the lawsuit has
passed-- translation "we know its a faulty product"-- "Can I send a
customer service rep to your house to fix your faulty neptune?" It
will be full price etc. to fix.And ppl wonder why I drive a honda...

R11 got torched , so I replaced it and the wax motor. (Q6 looked good
so didn't do anything to it) Confirmed 120v at the wax motor when
pushing in the door switch, but the wax motor thing doesn't move. No
door lock light comes on, so no spin cycle. Any other ideas?

I guess you need someone who knows these machines to tell you what to
look for. The 4000's were produced primarilary in "99", following the
3000's. I use to be a Maytag factory repair tech. The 3000's, 4000's,
and most of the 5500's qualified under lawsuit definations for class
action repairs. Issues consisted of 1: Door "lock wax motor" failing,
thus damaging the infamous "R-11" resister on the maching control
board requiring both to be replaced.2: Mold and Mildew issue, mostly
caused by improper detergent usage, blocked boot drain (after PHT kit
installation). 3: Failed motor controller. Does the door lock? If
the door does not perform it's lock function, then the machine will
refuse to spin at all, it will operate the drain pump, but that's
it.If it spins at all, then your door is locking, if it is not
achieving the highest spin, then 1 of 2 things are not working. If it
ramps up then ramps down several times in a row, like it's going to
spin fine, then you need to look at your out of balance circuit. If it
only spins at a reduced rate steadily and no higher, then you need to
look at your "spin enable switch" located in the lock assembly which
is all part of the door lock, and light bulb housing. This switch
tells the machine tht the door is locked, and usually fails due to
poor contact within the micro switch from bleach vapor, and detergent
vapor. It's the last one in the chain of mechanics, you'll find it
listed in the service lit located behind the control console, if
someone hasn't walked away with it.The 4000's also had the older motor
control kit that failed and was part of the class action. When this
part fails the machine will not tumble or spin, it may run for a min
or two then go dead. Also revised on these models was the drain pump,
upgraded to an 80 watt for greater dependability. Do you have MOLD?
check your detergent usage, HE? better be! powder is best , and only
table spoons. Also if you have had a PHA kit installed, as the 3000's,
and 4000's needed them, check your boot drain at the bottom center, is
it clear and letting water flow right through, probably not. If not
use a Q-Tip to clean this, and flush with bleach and hot water till it
works.if the boot is already moldy it will have to be replaced. I have
a "99" Neptune 4000 and mine is stellar! These machines aren't perfect
and did suffer major design changes.But when cared for as required
they rock.

This is a website that covers the problems you are describing for your
washer. It's a class action lawsuit against Maytag. Theres a problem
with a solenoid switch on the door that tells the machine it's ok to
start working. I have no clue what's causing the high speed spin to
not work. Even though it may be past warranty, if it was a known issue
before and it wasn't properly repaired, then it's still covered in
many states.

Calling your local news and state's consumer beaurau's can't hurt
either.

Good Luck on getting this resolved and for being nice enough to bring
it to other's attention. It dosen't reflect well on a company who
prides itself on well made machines and good service.

Michael, take everything Mike R. says with a grain of salt, as he is
well known here on PFB for his "salesmanship" when giving consumers
advice and biased opinions, which are is in his own best interest, and
not your's.

Mike R. will have you believe "neither the manufacturer nor service
center should really be burdened by your request", which is the
furthest thing from the truth. He uses that type of illogical
persuasion to convince consumers that their complaints are not worthy
of attention or resolution. You will be much better off ignoring
everything said by Mike R. and following your own instincts.

Wow, Michael, The MAH4000 series is an older model. Unless you
purchased it second-hand, you've owned it for a number of years.

It is true that the very first series of Neptune did experience a
specific problem of not draining the water properly from the internal
door boot. This problem was acknowledged from the manufacturer and,
up to a year ago, was being repaired free of charge. I am not aware
of the problem you are speaking of in particular.

It has been a year and a half from the time you've had your washer
repaired. This service wasn't done by Maytag themselves, but a
service center possibly authorized by Maytag. Services as this are
usually only guaranteed for thirty to sixty days. You'll want to read
your paperwork on this service for the exact amount of time. As such,
neither the manufacturer nor service center should really be burdened
by your request. It's unfortunate, but neither company has not
fulfilled a guarantee that was otherwise given to you.

The manufacturer for most appliances now warranties a new product one
year, nothing more. You may, however, purchase an extended service
agreement from many retailers. This isn't a bad idea on such a
heavily used and depended upon item. My suggestion, however, would be
to shop around when purchasing such an item and compare extended
service agreements. Don't just consider the price, but the actual
coverage in writing and, further, the backer of the agreement. I
usually feel it is much better if you deal with a retailer that backs
its own agreements.

In replacing this washer, which I would do as $500 is not a good
investment for such an old washer, you may consider the current line
of Neptunes. Although you may be upset with your product now, it
would still match a Neptune dryer which you haven't complained about.
The current models of these 2.2 cubic foot systems are the MAH5500 and
MAH6500. Both seem to work without issues.

You should be aware of some changes which have happened within the
last year with Maytag. Whirlpool has purchased the company and all of
its subsidiaries. In making some decisions for the changes in their
product line, they have decided to discontinue the Neptune brand.
That means, if you do decide to replace the washer with one that
matches your dryer, you need to do it rather quick.

In place of the Maytag option, you may also consider a Frigidaire
front load washer. They are well designed with a 3.5 cubic foot,
stainless steel tub and a starting price of about $599. Your dryer,
although mismatched, should still work fine with this option.
