Maytag Neptune Dryer is Ruining Our Clothes

We purchased a Maytag Neptune dryer not even two years ago. We have had numerous problems with it for over a year now and the repairman have been here on several occasions. At first it was shrinking all of our clothes even when dried on the extra low drying feature. I did several loads of laundry when I bought the kids back to school and fall clothes last year. I didn't realize it, but the drum was broke. There was a sharp piece of metal sticking out of the drum so that put holes and tears in all my kids brand new clothes!

The repairman came and fixed the drum when it finally came in, as of course it was on back order. Then that same day, I had to call back as it was still making a loud noise. Turns out the new drum broke something inside when it was being repaired, so again, we had to wait for a part and wait for them to repair it.

A few months passes and again the dryer is making extremely loud noises and still shrinking our clothes. You can even hear it when you are outside. We had a repairman come out and turns out the drum is broke again. The part took weeks to come in as it was on back order. When the repairman shows up with it and opens it, the new drum was damaged during the shipping process and he has to order a new one, which is still on back order. We are still waiting for the part to come.

In the meantime, all of our clothes are stained up terribly from the broken drum as the felt type piece is lose and getting dark dirt stains on everything. Before I realized this, I washed all of my sons and my own new birthday clothes (we got in March) and kids spring clothes which have stains on everything that won't come out. Tons of brand new clothes with stains that won't come out. Hundreds of dollars down the drain again!

I had brain surgery this year for an incurable neurological disorder I was born with. Then I had a follow up surgery for complications. I cannot take my 2 and 3 year old daughters to the laundromat to do laundry as I am not allowed to drive, nor am I allowed to lift heavy loads of laundry or them. Not to mention, who can do that with two little ones anyway? This is a HUGE inconvenience. I have lost hundreds of dollars worth of new clothes and some old clothes as well. And to boot, my dryer is still not fixed. My youngest just turned two on Friday and I cannot wash all of her new clothes as they will all get ruined. I am furious.

I want my dryer replaced with something that won't keep braking. I want something to be done since I have lost hundreds of dollars worth of clothes on two occasions from this defective dryer we have paid about $800 for. This has been over a year of inconvenience. I want what we paid for, a reliable dryer.

I will happily send pictures I have taken of our brand new stained clothing. My husband has written to customer service who has not been of any help to our situation.

PLEASE correct this impossible and severely frustrating situation. I cannot wash our clothes because of this and because of my medical condition cannot go to the laundromat either. Something needs to be done as we have no clean clothes left and all our recent clothes are ruined.

I will eagerly be awaiting a timely response with some suggestions to rectify this situation.

Thank you for your time.

My Maytag dryer has ruined several hundreds of dollars worth of
clothing and linens. I think I have 2 problems, the clothes are
getting slit on the drum and also they get stuck near the opening of
the dryer. Has Maytag done anything for you yet?

Well, the repairman came back and there was more than the drum ruined.
The wheels underneath were being shaved off as they were rubbing, so
those black stains were from the rubber powder. He called his boss,
who called our warranty company. They deemed it unrepairable as they
have already sunk more money into it over the past year than it is
worth.
I called Maytag almost everyday. They were no help at all. They tried
to pass the buck on it not being their problem cuz' it was over a year
old, although it isn't even two years old yet. They did nothing for
the fact that their product damaged clothing on two occassions. I am
thoroughly disgusted with Maytag and their customer service.
Thank God for our extended warranty company though. GE stepped in and
saved the day. They replaced it with a brand new GE dryer yesterday. I
am very happy for that. I will buy GE products from here on in
specifically, but not Maytag since they were not helpful at all.

I agree that you're having a terrible experience with your dryer and
would like to add that I understand why the clothes are ruined. I had
a similar problem with the drum in one of my dryers (not Maytag), and
the clothes do get black stains on them that cannot be removed. The
clothes actually are ruined. When I first started noticing the
stains, I didn't know what was causing it, and by the time I figured
it out, a lot of damage was done.

As Redhead said, you can temporarily drip dry the clothes, but that's
difficult to do for an entire family. And people with allergies
shouldn't hang their clothes outside on a clothesline either because
allergens can stick to the clothing, especially this time of year.

If the dryer is still under warranty, Maytag really should do the
right thing by either fixing it immediately or replacing it. Since
they are trying so hard to restore their image, this would be a good
place to start.

Please let us know what they do for you.

I bought a Neptune washer, got it home and it wouldn't spin the water
out.I had to drain it with a bowl and went on line Googling "Neptune",
I couldn't believe all the stuff posted about that model.Apparently
it's a joke and the company is wishing it would go away.

Best of luck to you.

We had one, too! LOL by Rachel S. Wed April 30, 2008 @ 11:00 AM

I agree. THey owe you a new dryer. Personally, I'd not want the
Neptune one again, given all the trouble you've had with it!

I don't blame you for being frustrated.

But by the way: You CAN wash their clothes. You can hang them up to
dry. I don't put much in the dryer, as the dryer is harder on clothes
than the washer is. AS a result, my stuff looks awesome and lasts
forever.

Of course, I'll grant you that having two small kids makes that much
more difficult, but I know moms of large families who hang ALL their
laundry up. Maybe this is a temporary solution for you?

Here's what I suggest by RedheadwGlasses Wed April 30, 2008 @ 1:38 PM

by dulynoted Posted Tue April 29, 2008 @ 7:37 AM

I honestly hope that Maytag resolves this problem and soon. Although I
find it a bit hard to understand or believe that so many drums were
damaged during delivery.

But, and please do not take this the wrong way, I cannot help wonder
how you could not see the black markings on the clothes when you firt
pulled these from the dryer. I can see where Maytag would be
responsible for the initial load of clothes, but I think you may have
a difficult time trying to get reimbursement from Maytag for anything
but the first load.
There are other options to dry the clothes like hanging them to dry
someplace or if you have no room gather ALL your laundered clothes for
a week and dry these at a launder-mat. Costly yes, but less expensive
than new clothes.

Please keep up posted to let us know if Maytag finally got this
resolved.
