McDonalds Fries are NOT vegetarian
Posted Fri January 7, 2005, by Liam W. written to McDonald's of Canada
Write a Letter to this Company
I'm writing to bring your attention to a problem with the experience at McDonald's of Canada. The restaurant I'm referring to is at Restaurants in Toronto Canada.
I am angry because there is nothing CLEARLY INDICATING that you cook your fries in Meat oil, and there never was (except the ingredient list in some pamphlet).
I have been a vegetarian since 1999, and I am seething as a result of your company's stupidity for failing to inform patrons properly that you fry in this particular oil, which I just found out when I finally was able to get the ingredient list.
I am uncertain whether I would consider dining in your restaurant again. Also, I probably won't be recommending you to people I know.
Here is how I would like you to address my complaint: Pay me $1000.00 for breaking my beliefs and put up proper signage that your fries contain meat products.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I hope to hear from you very soon.

Dude, you got this all wrong. First off, its not the oil, its actually that they use Beef extract as a seasoning (http://www.commondreams.org/headlines01/0504-02.htm). They stopped using the oil in the 90's. Although I agree that McDonald's should have warned people that beef existed in a product you wouldn't expect (especially since you hear that its cooked in vegetable oil, well, at least most people know that), but asking for a $1000.00 is just, well, dumb. If you were a vegetarian, what the hell did you eat at McDonald's? Seriously, they are the most vegetarian unfriendly restaurant out there. Hell, I can get more vegetarian food at Outback Steakhouse! Oh, and by the way...sorry to burst your bubble, but you better start staying away from Gelatin (and all the many products that use it).

I don't think they'll pay 1000$, but congrats on being vegetarian anyways. I am too. ~shrugs~ Most fast food resturants suck like that, I think some other ones have veg fries though. Maybe BK or Wendys might.

I understand your complaint, being vegetarian as well. I think every restaurant should have signs saying what is and isn't vegetarian, but that's not a reality. Hope you get somewhere with this complaint...but $1000?

They should not have lied to you and you have a legitimate complaint. However, asking for $1000 does nothing for your credibility. You should considner changing your approach.
Good luck kiddo!

Of course they cook them in the same oil! Oil is expensive! Besides, when you go to a place that makes a lot of meat products, you have to expect at least a little meat in any food!

Well at my Mcdonalds which is also in Toronto Ontario btw they boil them seperately. Pay you $1000, ha. good luck getting that. If you do email me and I will try the same thing. But you should have asked if their fries were made in the same oil as the meat.

hi.
1) if you are vegetarian for your health, then why the h-ll are you eating fast food?
2) no extra animals were killed for the serving of fries that you ate.
3) how will 1000 dollars change anything? money will not unbreak your beliefs
4) There are so many food that contain animal products that you don't know about, so how is McDonald's different?
5) No fast food place clearly indicates their ingredients/nutrition information. it is your fault for practically eating with your eyes closed.
6) If you really take it that seriously, then why did you eat it if you didn't even know what it was made of?? why didn't you look it up?? no, you will not recieve 1000 for being ignorant.
