Screwed at the drive through

The other night, I drove through the drive through of my local McDonalds. As I know that this particular restaurant is notorious for getting my order wrong, I make sure I made my order clear. "Combo number 4, NO CHEESE PLEASE!!" And it's read back to me. When they handed me my food, I double checked the order before I left the window. It was a double cheeseburger. I told the woman I ordered it WITHOUT cheese. She gave me a look of disappointment and took the sandwich back. I waited and waited. 5 minutes later, a sandwich was handed back to me. I drove the 20 minutes home, opened the bag, and found the exact same cheeseburger in its original box. The cheeseburger had obviously been passed around the kitchen for 5 minutes and returned to me. I was SO upset, especially because I try to keep Kosher. And I was out more than $6 for food I couldn't eat. This restaurant is notorious for getting my order wrong. I once ordered a 2 hamburger meal, drove to a local shopping mall, opened up the bag, and found chicken Mc nuggets. How wrong could they get the order? Anyway, the manager called me and tried to set things right, offering me a free hamburger. This doesn't come close to reimbursing me for my time and the money spent. I really don't think that service is going to change here.

Prove me wrong! Have the person working in the drive through window open up the order to verify it's correct.

Good McDonalds drive throughs are very hard to come by. You should
try the one by my house! They always accidentally give us like twice
the amount of food that we order.

Me and a friend went through one evening, we both ordered the quater
pounder meals, he had a Dr Pepper I had a Diet Coke. We get to the
window, we pay the correct amount, she gives us our food, I check and
it's correct, then our drinks, they're right too!

My friend starts rolling up the window and she yells "WAIT don't
forget the rest!" and hands us two 6-piece McNugget meals and two
shakes!

We looked at each other, said thank you and drove off!

It's the McDonalds that makes up for the rest of the other ones haha!

by PepperElf Posted Fri July 17, 2009 @ 9:56 AM

i did a google search for the use of the word "Kosher" at their
website and only came up with a few links...

http://tinyurl.com/koshermcdonaldsgoogle

They only claim to use 100% Kosher beef in the restaurants in Israel.
Beef itself is only Kosher when it's taken from specific cuts. (That's
one of the reasons why I love Kosher hotdogs - there's no use of icky
cow body parts used in them).

Though...there are a few ingredients they use at the regular US stores
that are Kosher (the Gelatin they use in their desserts) but nothing
else is labeled as such.

But... well you do what you can.

And if they can't figure out "no cheese" when you ask for it... and if
they keep doing it (sounds like they're repeating the same mistakes)
it sounds like it's a good time to go to someone who cares enough to
get it made right the first time.

Go somewhere else for your food, especially since "this particular
restaurant is notorious for getting my order wrong."

I know you keep hoping that they'll get it right and they might, on
occasion, but don't count on it. I worked at McDonald's drive-thru
for ten years and I know how they can be. I always checked my orders
(as should each and every drive-thru cashier.)

For those who don't know, When I worked at McDonalds whoch was about
20 years ago the cheese was never on the grill. You would put the
chsse on the bun then the hot beef would melt it.

Today with them, precooking the patties and keeping them in a warming
tray I don't see how the cheese could touch a grill

Not that it is kosher food but I can understand the idea.

Then again the prohibition against meat and dairy came because of the
dietay law that you are not to cook something in it's mother's milk.
Since in the biblical times you couldn't tell what animal gave birth
to what offspring easily a blanket directive was given. However now
dairy cows and beef cows are different breeds so you wouldn't be
cooking the young in it's mother's milk.

I was at McDonalds today for breakfast and I thought of this letter. I
was inside, and when I got my to go bag, I opened it up and inspected
the food to make sure it was what I ordered.
The cashier asked me "You worried that we got it wrong?", to which I
responded with "With McDonald's stellar track record of accuracy,
you're right, I shouldn't worry".

Your statement they are notorious for getting the order wrong says it
all. Yet you still go back to that location. There must be another
McD's somewhere close to your area that may give better drive thru
service.

What you can do is open it right there and make sure its correct
before you leave the drive thru...people should do this all the time
but they do not because they do not want to hold the line up. But if I
am paying for something I want to make sure its the right order before
I pull away. If they have enough people holding up the line making
sure their order is correct the manager may actually re-train the
employees in how important it is to read the order correctly the first
time. Time is money to a place like McD's...especially during the peak
hours.

Personally, I don't want the person working the drive thru window
unwrapping my sandwiches to verify they are correct. They are
handling money after all. I do expect them to make sure that if I
ordered two burgers, one fry and one drink that I got 4 items but, for
specifics like no cheese, I will open the wrapper.

So, why did you leave the drive through window without checking your
order the second time? It doesn't make sense that you wouldn't check
after it was wrong the first time.

How exactly do you know your burger was passed around the kitchen for
5 minutes?

If the drive through employee is the same one who takes the cash, I
wouldn't want them opening up my order. Money is Gross!

Check your order before leaving. They do not have their act together
but at least the manager is making an attempt to please you.

"I try to keep Kosher."

This made me chuckle! No way is ordering a burger without cheese at
McDs "keeping kosher."

Anyway... I guess they've proven that you need to check your food
completely and thoroughly before leaving, every single time, which is
a pain. Have you called the manager? This sounds like a good time to
do a direct complaint. It's terrible customer service to do what they
did.

David Z.,

Best thing to do is check the bag before you pull off. It holds up the
line but that is better than the alternative of the drive home
surprise.

I'm intrigued with how one can "keep Kosher" when consumning food from
a fast food place like this.

Thanks for getting back with us.

free food doesn't cut it. When a restaurant repeatedly screws up my
order or my food, and problems go uncorrected, I ditch them and move
on. How else can one retain their sanity?

Free food as compensation works once, and that is about it.

I am surprised you drove away without checking a second time. If they
usually get your order wrong, you had better check every single time
they hand you something.
