i had purchased Microsoft Home Server from Amazon.com. i installed the software and activated it after 14 days i began to recieve notices that i needed to activate Windows so i have attempted to do this now for 3 DAYS!!!! i called amazon and their view on it was (i installed and opened the software and there for cannot return it for a refund or a replacement)i called microsoft on 12/06/2007 and basically was told i had to BUY another copy of the software from them and pay for tech phone support.WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO PAY FOR ANOTHER COPY OF THE SOFTWARE THAT I HAVE ALREADY PURCHASED FOR 249.99 THIS IS TOTAL A SCAM!!!.The reps on tech support would not even try to help me thru this situation at any level unless i paid for it.
i just want my software working i paid for it and thats all i want. i do not want to spend another 4+ hours on the phone to do this i just want what i paid for. nothing more nothing less

I couldn't figure out what exactly you bought, because I think Amazon lists the retail price around $195, and you paid $250.
In any event, as Jeffrey says this should be a legit copy and it sounds like you should be complaining to Microsoft. I'm pretty sure (I hope, as a stockholder) Microsoft supports its legally purchased products. Good luck.

Your letter is a mess, but I agree with you. It should not be necessary to purchase another copy.
I have to think there was a miscommunication. If you call for assistance with installation (or, in this case, the fact that it didn't accept your registration) and you have a legit copy (which I would think would be the case from Amazon), then there is no reason for them to make you buy another copy.
I'd suggest you call again. They should ask for some information, including the CD key.
