Triscuits Packaging Needs To Be Less Deceptive

I was pleased to see Triscuit crackers at my Woodland, CA Costco yesterday. Even though we had enough crackers at home, I purchased the Triscuits to "send a message" to Costco that I want them to continue carrying Triscuits. Unfortunately, I was disappointed and annoyed with the packaging. The box for 2 lb 8 oz of crackers was very oversized for the actual quantity of crackers.

Please consider a greener, less-deceptive form of packaging for Triscuits, similar to the wrapped stacks of crackers like saltines are currently packaged. I will continue to purchase Triscuits for my family, but I hope to see a major change in packaging in the future!

I think most products come with too much packaging. Luckily for me our
recycling program has included all paperboard and cardboard. But even
though recycling is mandatory in my town, I still know people who
throw it all in the regular trash. They say they find it stupid to
"wash" their garbage. It's really more like rinsing.

We throw junk mail and catalogs in the recycle bin and they take it
all. No sorting needed either. It all goes into the back of a truck
and away they go.

maybe they need a bigger box by batmoody Thu July 30, 2009 @ 1:30 PM

I think they use a bigger box so the crackers don't get damaged. Then
you would be writing about buying crushed crackers. I don't think the
size of the box is "decpetive"-you need to shop by weight.

I do think though that when possible companies should scale back on
their packaging-it would be better for the enviroment and also
cheaper-not that they would pass any savings along to us.

You can do your part by recycling as much as possible.

I read that the air is for protective measures, to avoid the
cumulative weight of boxes from crushing the crackers/chips/whatever
on the lower layers.

You knew how much the product weighed, you mention it is clearly
indicated on the box. This is not deceptive at all. Crackers/ chips,
etc. do not usually come in full bags. There is always a lot of air.

I remember reading in consumer reports once about the "black hole
awards", where packaging was extremely large for what was actually
received. The message was that consumers should always check the
actual quantity, and not rely on the size of the package.

That could be Consumer Reports n/t by RedheadwGlasses Wed July 29, 2009 @ 12:17 PM

You bought 2-1/2 pounds of crackers, and we can assume the weight of
the product is correct. Therefore it seems the issue is you imagined
you would get more.

I haven't had a Triscuit in over 20 years, but as I recall they come
in a box like most non-saltine crackers.

I try to shop by weight, not volume. Of course these pretty much go
hand in hand when shopping for a mate.

Decesions to discontinue products are rarely made at the store level,
they are usually done regionally.

Which means they may look at 300 or so stores to track movement. The
ones with the slowest sales get nixed to bring in new items. People
have their coupons for new items and want to see them on the shelves.

So by satisfying one customer, one gets pissed off.

Good Day
