Credit Denial

Posted Tue July 18, 2006 5:07 am, by Kelly L. written to Nordstrom, Inc. - Department Stores

In June I was denied a a Nordstrom Credit Card, some of the reasons listed were: too many recent inquiries which I believe at the time was 4, as well as "Insuffiecient never delinq mortage accts on file". My husband is in the US AIR FORCE and we have lived overseas for the past 3yrs in Germany and we are now living in Japan. Because of our Military Commitment we have had to defer home ownership. I am very upset I am being penalized by a company which I have loyally shopped at for 10+yrs and which I thought was supportive of the US Military members.
I would like Nordstrom to reverse their decision to deny my credit application based on my 10yrs of positive credit history with out any late payments and our monthly income exceeding 8,000 a month. I would like the opportunity to begin building a credit relationship with Nordstrom.

Make em want you. Give it some time so the inquiries go away. Save
some of those bucks you say you make. Then get a different card to
start and apply again but not too many times. Build up the bank
account. Maybe you have no collateral.

$8K a month? Your husband must be very high ranking to be earning the
big bucks in the military. If you make so much money, why do you even
want or need a specialty credit card good at only one store? Use
Visa.

The other poster took the words out of my mouth: credit is not a
right, it's a privilege.

Unfortunately credit is not an American right. There are guidelines
they follow to determine risk, and you are a risk according to those.
They don't want to lose money.
There are many ways to establish credit, you might want to look into
them. If you had 4 inquiries, that means that you potentially went on
a credit obtaining spree. It would be possible to get a large amount
of credit that you wouldn't qualify for, at the same time they
approved you. That would be the risk.
